BECHTELSVILLE, PA -June 9, 2017 . . . As midseason approaches the battle for the NASCAR TP Trailers 358 Modified title at Grandview Speedway is close, very close. With six Saturday nights of NASCAR stock car racing run nine-time track champion Craig VonDohren sits on top of the point standings, just six points ahead of ten-time track titleholder Jeff Strunk. Young Jared Umbenhauer, looking for his first Modified title, is 196 points back in third while another multi-time champion, Duane Howard, is just 199 counters back in fourth spot. Out of this impressive group only Strunk has been able to find victory lane so far this season.
The point standings could change dramatically on Saturday night with drivers in the chase having good nights or bad nights.
Stock car racing one the one-third-mile, banked clay Grandview Speedway oval is challenging and very competitive. There have been six different feature winners in the 358 Modifieds as racers head to their seventh night of racing.
And in the BRC Late Models Chuck Schutz has a narrow point lead over Bryon Sipe. Neither driver has a win. However in the Sportsman division of racing Brian Hirthler, winner of one feature this season, has a comfortable lead in the standings.
Fans will be anxious to see if new names will be added to the impressive list of 15 feature winners so far this season.
Qualifying in each division will set the starting field for each of three feature races, 30 laps for the Modifieds, 25 laps for the Late Models and 25 laps for the Sportsman.
Racing action on Saturday night has the green flag waving at 7:30 p.m. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. Pit area opens at 3 p.m. and racers are reminded to have their race cars in the pits by 6 p.m.
The Low Down and Dirty Meet & Greet is set to take place when the gates open and will feature Modified racer Steve Swinehart, Late Model talent Steve Todorow and Sportsman competitor Jeromy Guistwite along with their race cars.
Adult admission is $15 while youngsters 11 and under are admitted free. Pit admission is $30 and a NASCAR license is required. Pits open at 3 p.m.
Tina Rogers, track spokesperson, has announced that the Blast from the Past Vintage racers have been removed from the June 24th Bechtelsville Car Wash Night that now includes Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series racers along with TP Trailers 358 Modifieds and Sportsman. The Vintage cars will now be part of the July 8th show.
On Tuesday, June 13, 7:30 p.m. the excitement of the nationally famous United States Auto Club wingless sprint cars will be featured. Also part of the Jesse Hockett Classic will be the popular 358 Modifieds. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with adult admission set at $30 while youngsters 6-11 pay $10 and children under 6 admitted FREE. Pit admission is $35 with no license required.
