Melvin L. Joseph Memorial March 11 Kicks Off Northeast Racing Season

GEORGETOWN, DE – February 14, 2017-Historic Georgetown Speedway in Delaware is set to host the Northeast’s season-opening dirt Modified race of 2017.

On Saturday, March 11, big-block/small-block Modifieds circle the half-mile clay oval for the 49-lap Melvin L. Joseph Memorial, held in memory of the speedway founder, motorsports pioneer and First State business icon. The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP opens its eight-race Velocita-USA South Region at Georgetown.

Not only is the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial the season opener for STSS Modifieds in ’17; it’s also very lucrative!

A base payout of more than $27,000 has been set with a non-top-heavy structure rewarding drivers through the field.

In accordance with Melvin Joseph’s lucky number of 49, the race winner receives $4,900.

The full purse breakdown is as follows: 1) $4,900; 2) $3,000; 3) $2,000; 4) $1,500; 5) $1,400; 6) $1,150; 7) $1,125; 8) $1,100; 9) $1,050; 10) $1,000; 11) $750; 12) $650; 13) $600; 14) $550; 15) $525; 16) $515; 17) $510; 18) $505; 19) $500; 20) $490; 21-28) $490 29-30) Alternate or Points Provisional.

Lap money, bonuses and contingency/product awards will “sweeten the pot” for competitors as well.

A pair of practice sessions will precede the opener, set for Saturday, March 4 and Saturday, March 10, respectively.

A rain date of Sunday, March 12 is in place if needed.

Overnight camping will be permitted on site and teams may leave their haulers in the pit area from Friday to Saturday.
