RAIN POSTPONES FONDA SPEEDWAY’S ICE JAM EVENT UNTIL SATURDAY, APRIL 22

Fonda, NY –April 16, 2017-  Rain started in the Fonda, NY area right around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and continued to get heavier as the day went on forcing the postponement of the Ice Jam 50-lap event until Saturday, April 22.

“We tried but the radar is green right through to the Syracuse area and beyond so we have decided to cancel today’s racing program,” Fonda Speedway promoter Pete Demitraszek said on Saturday afternoon. “This morning looking at the radar they were showing showers but as the day went on the forecast kept getting worse and right now the rain is pretty heavy.”

The schedule for Saturday, April 22 will be the same with hot laps beginning at 5:00 p.m. with the green flag set to fall on the first heat race of the evening at 6:00 p.m. The chase to the 2017 championships will also begin on Saturday, April 22 as points will begin in all classes on that day.

Pit gates will open at 3:00 p.m. while grandstand gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand season passes can be picked up at the front speedway ticket window on Saturday while pit licenses can be picked up at the pit sign in window.

The main event this Saturday will consist of the “Ice Jam” 50-lap event for the modifieds paying $4,000 to win. Also on the racing program will be a 25-lap dirt sportsman 602 race, a 20-lap pro stock feature, and a 15-lap street stock feature. The rookie sportsman division and the CRSA Sprint cars will also be in action on Saturday, April 22 as well.

Stewart Friesen has swept the opening day “Ice Jam” event wins at Fonda for the past two years.

The Fonda Speedway Museum will open its doors on Saturday, April 22 as well so be sure to pay the museum a visit to see some of the history of the “Track of Champions”.
