Knaub Victorious at SSP’s Opening Night on Saturday

Newberrytown, PA (April 4, 2015) – The Susquehanna Speedway Park opened up on Saturday night for the 61^st season with four exciting divisions on a cool and windy night. Dover’s Gene Knaub took the victory in the Bernheisel Race Components Late Model 25 lapper on opening night. Loysville’s Jim Plam Jr. took the win by leading the final ten laps of the Street Stock 20 lapper. Frankie Herr of Carlisle took the win in the 25-lap Super Sportsman tour race. Chad Earnst from East Berlin won the Legends Cars 20-lap feature event.

Justin Ehrhart started on the pole position with Gene Knaub starting beside him at the green of the 25-lap BRC Late Model feature event. Knaub grabbed the early lead and set the pace with Ehrhart in tow. A few caution flag periods bunched up the field early on in the race. At the finish, Knaub took the victory over Ehrhart. A battle for the third place podium finish found Chase Billet holding off Billy Wampler at the end. J.R. Rodriguez rounded out the top five. Justin Ehrhart and Gene Knaub were the heat race winners.

From the front row, Matt Wampler grabbed the early lead of the 20-lap Street Stock feature over Eric McClane. Richard Bossinger took the top spot from Wampler on lap 4. Scott Thunberg scooted by Wampler to take the runner-up spot on the eighth circuit. A flat tire on the Bossinger car on a lap 8 restart put him from the lead to the rear, putting Scott Thunberg into the lead. Thunberg led lap 9 with Jim Palm Jr. taking the top spot on lap 10 and he never looked back. Palm went on to take the victory with Jimmy Coombs following across the line in second, besting Jasen Geesaman by about a foot. Chris Derr finished in fourth with Thunberg rounding out the top five. Coombs and Bossinger were heat race victors.

Frankie Herr took the early lead of the 25-lap Super Sportsman feature from the pole position. Kevin Nouse quickly grabbed the runner-up spot on lap 2 after starting in the 10^th position at the start. Gregg Foster raced close behind in third. Cautions on lap 7 & 8 allowed Nouse to restart on the rear bumper of Herr, however he could not make the winning pass. The remainder of the race went caution free with Herr taking the checkers over Nouse. Foster settled for third with Rich Eichelberger finishing in fourth after starting 14^th at the beginning of the race. Mike Enders rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Chad Criswell, Herr and Foster.

In the 20-lap Legends Car feature, Chad Earnst held off a late race challenge from Bob Stough to take the victory. Early race leader Jacob Feltch finished in third with Mason Chaney and Scott Houdeshell finished fourth and fifth places respectively. Rick Hartwig and Bill Diehl were heat race winners.

The next Wednesday night Test & Tune will be on Wednesday, April 8. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $14.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($34.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open and free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night. The raindate will be Wednesday, April 15.

Racing action returns to the Big Track at SSP on Saturday night, April 11 on York County Racing Club Night with the BRC Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Road Warriors/Mini Vans and PA Sprint Series. Then the 410 Super Sprint Cars return to SSP on Sunday April 12 along with the 358 Sprint Cars in the 6^th Annual Sprint Car Spring Classic.

On track action returns to the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, April 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a nighttime Test & Tune session featuring quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”

There will be a Rookie Training course before the practice on Friday, April 10 for anyone that wants to participate. The training will be done by SSP official Jeff Richardson and John Gose, from Mafia Performance. The training will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There is no charge for the training, but we just ask that you contact us at sspracing@hotmail.com to let us know you are going to participate in the training. The training will cover the racing flags, rules, orientation of the speedway and what to expect on a race night. The training will also be offered before Wednesday night Test & Tunes is there is interest.

The Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune is on April 8

The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be held on Wednesday, April 8 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval. The cost is $14.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($34.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts will not be open. Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181. The main concession stand will be open throughout the night.

Also on Friday night, April 10, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”

– Special Pricing for 2015 Regular Season Pit Pass Cards – In order to help weekly supporters, SSP has announced that season pit pass cards for all automobile race events at the “Big Track” from April 4 through September 12 (22 events) are on sale for just $350.00 (a retail value of $550.00). The pass is not valid for events at the “Outback Track” or for the Test & Tune Sessions held throughout the season. Does not include the USAC racing event on Sunday, June 7, 2015 or Sunday, August 20, 2015.

Saturday Only Season Pit Pass (April 4 –Sept. 12) – $300.00

– 2015 Full Season Grandstand Passes – Are available for only $250.00 (adults ages 18-59); $200.00(young adults ages 11-17 & seniors 60 and older) for all events (29 event nights) at the “Big Track” for the entire season (expires 12/31/15). Does not include the USAC racing event on Sunday, June 7, 2015 or Sunday, August 20, 2015.

– Track Rental for the “Big Track” and the “Outback Track” – The “Big track” and the “Outback track” are available for rent beginning March 1, 2015. The “Big Track” rental fee is $1,500.00 for 4 hours and may be split between a maximum of five-(5) drivers/teams. Only one car is permitted on the track at a time. If an ambulance is requested, it is an additional $75.00 per hour. For nighttime rentals at the “Big Track”, an additional $100.00 per hour will be charged for lights. There will be a $200.00 discount (price will be $1,300) if the Big Track is reserved before February 15, 2015 for any date after March 1. A $200.00 deposit is also required to receive the discount (with $1,100 balance due on the date of the rental).

The rental price for the “Outback Track” is $400.00 for 4 hours during the day /$500.00 at night and may be split between a maximum of five-(5) drivers/teams. To reserve either track, please call 717-292-1696.

– Free Pit Passes for all Non-Qualifiers in 2015 – Any non-qualifier who starts the a qualifying heat race and fails to qualify for the feature in the Late Model, Street Stock, Xtreme Stock Cars, Mini Vans and Road Warriors divisions during the regular season point events will receive a complimentary pit pass for the driver for the following week during the regular season from April 4 though September 12. The driver must possess a full annual SSP license in order to be eligible for the complimentary pit pass and pass is not transferable to another driver or to another week beyond the following week.

– 2015 SSP Rules Now Posted on Website – The 2015 SSP Rules for the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Mini Vans and Road Warriors divisions are posted.

– Repeat Fan Discount Continues for 2015 – The popular “Repeat Fan Discount” program will continue at SSP in 2015 for the 12^th season in a row. There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.

Ticket Stubs from the Saturday, November 15, 2014 Final Showdown race may be used for the first three races on April 4, April 11 or April 12.
