Points Leaders Suffer at Bowman Gray

(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) With an abundance of competitive drivers in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series, the points battle doesn’t allow much margin for error.
Burt Myers of Walnut Cove ran into some mechanical issues during the first 25-lapper on Saturday, relegating him to a 15th and 13th place finish. He drops from a healthy 12-point lead down to second place – 6 points out of the
points lead.
Nine-time champion Tim Brown of Tobaccoville qualified second on Saturday and finished second and 10th. Brown moves from fifth in the points up to tie Myers for second on the points ladder.
But a new force has appeared in the Modified Series: Brandon Ward of Winston-Salem, although currently winless at the Stadium, has moved up into the points lead. A pillar of consistency, Ward has finished four out of four times
in the top seven.
In the Farm Bureau Insurance Sportsman Series, Zack Clifton of Walkertown secures the points lead with a second and fifth place performance on Saturday. Zack Ore of Winston-Salem had a pair of unlucky finishes and drops from
the points lead down to fifth in the points standings.
Last year’s champion, Taylor Branch of Lewisville, continues to climb up through the ranks. Branch moves up to second, just eight points behind Clifton. Veteran Tommy Neal of Walkertown moves from a sixth place points ranking
up to third.
Doug Wall’s second place finish in Saturday’s Whelen Street Stock 50 rockets him into the points lead for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. Derrick Rice of Kernersville was involved in a colossal crash, dropping him down
to second in the points.
In the McDowell Heating & Air Stadium Stock Series, A.J. Sanders of Mocksville takes his second victory out of two races so far this season. His 100% win rate puts him in a strong points lead. Brandon Brendle of Winston-Salem
currently ranks second.
The points ladders may be in for some rearranging this Saturday with Double Points Night and the Farm Bureau Insurance Sportsman 100. Also on the schedule are twin 25s for the Modifieds plus racing for the Street Stock and
Stadium Stock divisions.
