Keith Dempster and Todd Hoddick started from the front row in the 20 lap 360 Sprint Car feature, but the first lap wasn’t complete before Glenn Styres spun in turn 3, and collected Lee Winger. Both drivers restarted at the tail of the field, while Dempster took the early lead, and Hoddick saw Mitch Brown take the second spot. Hoddick and Brown diced for the second spot, and also caught back up to Dempster, as Hoddick briefly led at the start/finish line on lap 5. Dempster’s chance at a feature win went away with mechanical issues on lap 8, leaving Brown in the lead and Hoddick close behind, while Dane Lorenc began to close in.

Another yellow flag came out at the halfway mark, as Shawn Sliter and Tyler Hendricks crashed in turn 2. Sliter was unable to restart, but Hendricks’ crew made repairs and later salvaged an 11th place finish. Brown continued to run mainly in the bottom groove against the inside wall in the corners, while Hoddick rode the outside groove. Following several attempts, Hoddick finally threaded the needle through traffic and took the lead on lap 15.

Brown got a chance to retake the lead when Jim Huppunen got off track on lap 17. Huppunen had been as high as 5th, but ended up finishing 10th. Brown was close behind Hoddick on the restart, but couldn’t make a move, as Hoddick went on to the first Sprint Car feature win of his career, followed by Brown, Lorenc, 14th starter Dain Naida, and Styres.

Heat races for the 21 car field were claimed by Brown, Chris Steele, and Styres, while Brown also won the Nathan Ackland State Farm Insurance “Top Gun” Award for amassing the most passing points during heat race action. Hoddick now leads the championship standings over Lorenc by 13 points.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS (12 entries)

Ed Green and Brad Herron led the Crate Sprint Car field to the green flag for their 15 lap feature, and Green led the first lap before third row starter Ryan Hunsinger took over. Mark Czuba spun on lap 4, and opening night feature winner Alex Hill went to the pit area during the ensuing caution period, and didn’t return. Green held the second spot until just before the halfway mark, when 11th starter Dylan Westbrook got around Green and set off in pursuit of Hunsinger.

Hunsinger was working on putting a lap on Mack DeMan when Westbrook blitzed both of them in turn three and led the 3 remaining circuits to claim his first win of the season. Hunsinger settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Green, 12th starter Aaron Turkey, and rookie of the year candidate Steve Lyons.

Heat races for the 12 car field were claimed by Hunsinger and Westbrook, while Westbrook also claimed the Nathan Ackland State Farm Insurance “Top Gun” Award for running the fastest single lap during heat race action. Westbrook now holds a slim one point advantage over Turkey in the championship standings.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS (39 entries)

Kacey Huffman and Jerry Hill started on the front row for the 20 lap Thunder Stock feature, but 10th starter Chase Hess quickly made his way to the front, and took over the lead before the second circuit was complete. 15th starter Mikey Kruchka was also on the move early in the race, and briefly held the second spot behind Hess until 19th starter Bill Bleich, Jr. and 21st starter Chris Dickie moved around him on lap 5.

Dickie’s chance at winning went away with a flat tire and spin which brought out a yellow flag on lap 16. Bleich and 20th starter Dave Bailey couldn’t catch Hess after the restart, as Hess collected his first Thunder Stock feature win, while Bleich settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Bailey, Jeremy May, and Bryce Richardson.

Heat races for the 39 car field were claimed by Brett Rodwell, Chase Hess, and Ryan Dinning, while Wyatt Van Wart won the B-Main. Bailey now enjoys a 27 point advantage over Dereck Lemyre in the championship standings.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS (41 entries)

Brian Crosgrove and 2014 Rookie of the Year award winner Mark Bazuin had front row starting positions for the 15 lap Mini Stock feature, and Bazuin quickly took the lead and took off in search of his first win of the season. Shone Evans and Chris Ryckman raced for the second spot, while 11th starter Robin Elliott was up to 4th by lap four. Elliott methodically moved past both Evans and Ryckman to take the second position behind Bazuin by lap 9, and went to work in search of his first career feature win.

Following several attempts to overtake Bazuin in the outside groove, Elliott switched lanes on lap 12 and dove to the inside exiting turn two, only to see a yellow flag for a Gary Hodgson spin negate his pass. Elliott was not going to be denied the win this time though, as he drove to the inside of Bazuin again on lap 14 and claimed a popular victory. Elliott, who uses hand controls to operate the accelerator and brakes in his car, also set a new single lap track record for the Mini Stock division during his heat race.

Jason Lungaro was 6th when the white flag came out, and nosed ahead of Bazuin for the runner-up spot by .054 seconds. Bazuin settled for 3rd, followed by Evans and Ryckman. Jon Janssens was third heading into the last lap, but ended up 23rd.

Heat races for the 41 car field were claimed by Brian Crosgrove, Mark Bazuin, Chris Ryckman, and Brandon Janssens, while Kathi Dickie and Rob Hoskins won the B-Mains. Jason Lungaro now holds a 7 point lead over Rookie of the Year candidate Gillian Hils in the championship standings.

Ashley Nelson and Brooke Nelson were on the front row for the 12 lap Bomber feature, but it didn’t take long for Dusty DeBoer and Jerry Burnham to get to the front of the pack. Joe DeBoer finished third, followed by Mark Thorne and Dustin Longboat.
