Brown Shatters Lifetime Win Record at Bowman Gray
(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) On Friday at Bowman Gray Stadium, Burt Myers pulled off an astounding feat winning him $6,000. But he was overshadowed by Tim Brown’s accomplishment which was literally a career in
the making.
Tim Brown of Tobaccoville claimed the checkered in the Midway Mobile Storage 100 – his 74th career victory. The victory breaks Junior Miller’s record for most all-time Modified wins and makes Brown the holder of more victory
trophies than any other Modified competitor.
“Until it happened, I hadn’t really thought about it. But sitting out there in the car – from where I sat in the car at the start/finish line I could see where I sat as a kid growing up and just wanting to race here. Not even wanting to
win, just wanting to race,” said Tim Brown. “It’s just awesome. When I open that program, it’ll just be my name.”
Brown had the option of taking the Colors Edge Challenge and starting in the rear but opted to go with the rest of the field and randomly draw for position. He would turn down the chance to win $6,000 but would have a much
better shot at starting towards the front and taking that record-breaking win. The move paid off. Brown drew third.
Pole-starter Ronnie Clifton of Walkertown shot out into the lead and held on for 62 laps, fending off outside row challenges from Joseph “Bobo” Brown and Tim Brown. But Tim Brown tried a second time and was able to power past
Clifton on the outside to claim the lead.
“When he hit the button, he spun a little bit – and mine hooked up and launched me out front,” said Brown. “What a racecar.”
Meanwhile, Burt Myers of Walnut Cove had opted to go to the rear in order to take on the Colors Edge Challenge. If Myers made the top four, he would win the $6,000 prize pool.
But Myers’s race was a roller-coaster ride. Myers fought his way up through the field but was forced to pit due to mechanical issues. Again Myers worked his way through the field only to get tangled up and lose several positions.
“It was one of the wildest races I’ve ever been in,” said Myers. “Going through the infield and bouncing off the fence, going into the pits – I drove my tail off tonight.”
In the Farm Bureau Insurance Sportsman Series, Robbie Brewer of Winston-Salem won the first 20-lapper, with John Holleman of Winston-Salem winning the second.
Jeremy Warren of Winston-Salem took the checkered for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series, and Shane Southard of Yadkinville claimed the victory for the McDowell Heating & Air Stadium Stock Series.
The racing continues Saturday night with the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 for the K&N Pro Series East and a Modified 100-lapper.
