Port Royal –May 8, 2017-  In conjunction with Port Royal Speedway and Weikert’s Livestock, Ernie D’s Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speedweek is pleased to join together to offer the Mid-Atlantic Drivers and Fans an Appalachian Mountain Speedweek “Bonus Race” as part of the big Bob Weikert Memorial weekend slated for Saturday May 27th and Sunday May 28th at the track.

The Super Late Models will be on the card with the 410 Sprints during the Saturday Fallen Heroes Championships portion of the Memorial Day Weekend event.

The Late Model portion will be considered as an Ernie D’s Appalachian Mountain Speedweek “Tune-up” bonus race and will follow the Ernie D’s Appalachian Mountain Speedweek Rules and Format for this event. The Speedweek staff will oversee the Late Model part of the big double-header weekend that pays tribute to one of the biggest icons in the history of Central Pennsylvania racing, car owner Bob Weikert.

The 30 lap, $3,000 to win late model feature will also pay $300 to start. To make it more interesting Martinsburg West Virginia’s Ernie D’s Auction Enterprises will throw in $200 to the driver who sets overall fast time during group time trials for this event. There will be NO Speedweek points awarded for this race.

Late Model tire rule for this event will be as follows:

Hoosier 1300 or Harder or American Racer 44 or Harder on all 4 corners.

With the inaugural Fallen Heroes Championship night taking place in 2013, it has become an annual event that the drivers and fans look forward to every year.

On this night, the speedway pays tribute to the drivers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their love of our sport while racing at the famed Juniata County Oval. Please make your plans to join us as we remember these true Port Royal Speedway heroes.

Also on the card Saturday night will be the 410 Sprint Cars running for $5,000 to win and $400 to start in what is sure to be a great night of racing. Then on Sunday, the 410 Sprints return for a $10,000 to win, $500 to start event along with the URC Sprints who will be running for $2,000 to win.

With two great nights of racing, plan on spending your weekend with us at Port Royal Speedway.

“I really want to thank Steve (O’Neal) and Todd (Weikert) for asking us to be a part of this historic weekend” said Appalachian Mountain Speedweek Co-Promoter, Kurt Smith.

“With our speedweek starting the following Wednesday and this race being exactly one week before Port Royal’s speedweek date on June 3, this is a perfect opportunity for the Late Model teams to get dialed in by running the exact speedweek format under the speedweek rules.”
