(LEHIGHTON, Pa. 5-16-15) Races for this evening, May 16, at Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway have been cancelled due to weather.

Morning rain showers and a forecast of on and off intermittent rain for later in the day and into the evening has prompted promoter Floyd Santee to cancel the show.
The Car Cruise that was to have taken place has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 30.
Next week’s program will be highlighted by the Gene Bowers Sr., Memorial 100 for Street Stocks. The annual Memorial Day weekend race has become a very popular event on the yearly calendar. The race, which pays tribute to the late Gene Bowers Sr., a former driver and car owner, pays $1200 to win plus lap money that usually pushes the winner’s share to well over $2000.

Modifieds, Late Models, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks are also in action plus free tickets to the upcoming Pocono ARCA 200 at Pocono Raceway on June 6 will be given away to the first 300 adult guests in the grandstands. The Pocono Raceway Pace Car along with track mascot Tricky Fox will also be on hand. Racing starts at 6:00 pm.

Coming up on Saturday, June 6, a complete six division show plus the Xcel 600 Mods return to Mahoning Valley for the first time in five years.

Local television affiliate BRC13 and TV-13 Sports of Lehighton, which covers Northeast PA with local news and local origination programming, will be doing the first of several taped broadcasts of the races that evening.

Additional news can be found on the track’s official site at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com or on Facebook at Mahoning Valley Speedway and on Twitter at twitter.com/MahoningSpeed. You can also call the track hotline on race day at 570-386-4900. Mahoning Valley Speedway is adjacent to the Mahoning Valley Farmers Market on PA Route 443 just a few miles west of Lehighton.
