CENTER LISLE, NY – A heavy downpour during the late afternoon on Saturday thoroughly soaked the Thunder Mountain Speedway and forced the cancelation of the evening’s racing activities.
Despite clearing as the night went on following the afternoon line of storms, the track surface would not have been able to be worked in for racing.
“We had no choice but to cancel,” speedway owner Karl Spoonhower said. “We were as disappointed as anyone. Unfortunately, the rain came too heavily at the wrong time as we were beginning to prepare the track. There was no way we could have worked it in the right way for racing.
“We didn’t want to have a track that wasn’t right for our racers.”
Maines Driver Training Institute Night on the Mountain will be rescheduled.
Racing continues next Saturday, July 25, with a full program to include Modifieds, Open Sportsman, Crate 602 Sportsman ($500 to win), Rookie Sportsman, Street Stocks, XCel 600 Modifieds and Four Cylinders.
Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:20 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Adult grandstand admission is $12. Seniors (ages 65 and up) and Students (ages 10-17) pay $10. Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $30, with no license required.
