TRAPPER WINS MODIFIED FEATURE BY A NOSE AT PENN CAN FRIDAY… N. MADY, LINQUIST, BEACH, DOSTER, AND BOLES ALSO WIN

Susquehanna, PA..Another large crowd came out to Penn Can Speedway Friday on the annual Driver Autograph Night sponsored by Pompey Racing. The fans were treated to another night of side by side racing in all divisions. The modified main event saw a three car drag race coming out of turn four coming to the checkered flag with Bob Trapper of Scranton edging out Billy Thornton of Old Forge and Kevin Hartnett of Barto. In the 602 sportsman division Nick Mady of Milford was not to be outdone by his brother’s win last week as he brought his mount home for his first ever sportsman win at Penn Can. In the night’s most exciting feature, Ray Linquist of Susquehanna head off Jon Carpenter, Shane Wolf Jr, and Steve Deinhardt for his first ever street stock win. Eric Beach of Susquehanna had his regular car back and continued his winning ways capturing his seventh factory stock win of the season. Point leader Don Doster was the four cylinder win with Aaron Bowes winning in the Xcel modifieds.

Bob Trapper took the early lead in the thirty lap main event. It looked like Trapper would have things his own way as he increased the margin lap after lap. The real battles for postions were being made back in the pack with Billy Thornton, Brian Malcolm, Steve Babicek, and Kevin Hartnett racing hard looking to move forward. The first and only caution of the race came out on lap nineteen erasing Trapper’s large lead. When racing resumed Trapper now had Babicek, Thornton, and Hartnett on his bumper. Trapper took command with Thornton and Hartnett close to follow. With laps winding down both Thornton and Hartnett moved to the top side of the track Thornton used his momentum and move by Trapper on the white flag lap. With the three cars battling, Trapper got a run down the back stretch and pulled even out of turn four drag racing to the flag. Trapper edge back in front by a nose at the line with Hartnett alongside for third.

The 602 sportsman field has a mix of veterans and newcomers each week at the speedway. After the rookies went through the learning curve of sportsman racing, the features have been exciting with the mix of drivers thrilling the fans week after week. Last Friday rookie driver Brian Mady won for the first time. This week, his brother put his car out front and held off veteran Ryan Olsommer, rookie Brain Mady, and veteran Randy Gates for a hard fought victory.

The street stocks at Penn Can have been putting on some of the best racing week after week. This race was no different. Ray Linquist has been racing off and on at Penn Can over the last several years. This season he has been a regular and has been improving week after week. Linquist would take the lead early, withstand some early cautions and then race the last fourteen laps side by side nose to tail with some of the area’s best street stock racers. With three laps remaining Linquist had Jon Carpenter, Shane Wolf Jr, Steve Deinhardt, Ryan Stone, Butch Green, and Randy Fox all under a blanket racing for the win. Sometimes three and four wide, Linquist stayed his course and won an amazing street stock feature.

Eric Beach brough his regular factory stock back to the track Friday, started in the rear and moved to the front to win for the seventh time. Buck Mills Jr, Kris Shimer, Tommy Groover, and Nathan Hill rounded out the top five.

A strong field of four cylinders signed in with poinleader Don Doster coming from his four position to the front to grab the win in another caution free event. Andy Brigham, Dylan Robinson, Rich Wagner Jr, and, Mike Robinson followed him across the line.

Aaron Bowes came from mid pack to win an exciting twenty lap feature event over Scott Adams, Shaun Burd, Will Eastman, and Kamdin Maby.
