Stangle has the Angle, Captures Career First at New Egypt Speedway

New Egypt, NJ (July 5, 2014) – John Stangle of Neshanic Station, NJ had been so close to victory on many occasions over the years that he had begun to think it may never happen. But his hard work and perseverance paid off Saturday night as he finally captured that elusive first win in the 30 lap Modified feature at New Egypt Speedway. Stangle lead every lap in his Hutter powered Troyer car as he went wire to wire in the non-stop event defeating runner-up David Van Horn by three car lengths at the finish.
“I have never worked harder for anything in my life!” stated a jubilant Stangle in victory lane as fifth place finisher Jimmy Horton pulled up to congratulate him, “I can’t believe we finally did it!”

Stangle and DJ Ruppert brought the field to the start with Stangle wasting no time taking command. Stangle showed his power early as he opened up a comfortable lead over the first ten laps as David Van Horn worked his way into second, soon chased by Willie Osmun. That duo gave chase to Stangle but could not get closer than 6-8 car lengths from the leader as Stangle cruised with an open track ahead. Meanwhile Billy Pauch Jr. and Ryan Godown were working their way up thru traffic in an exciting side-by-side duel and entered the top five before halfway, as they began to reel in the front runners. Stangle entered lapped traffic soon after the halfway point as Pauch Jr. and Godown caught Osmun and Van Horn. The four car battle for second saw all of them evenly matched as the group bagen to close in on the leader. With just 5 laps remaining Van Horn was within three car lengths of Stangle and the crowd began to anticipate that the night’s fireworks might begin early. However, Stangle never waivered, hitting all of his marks winning by just under 1 second over Stangle and Osmun. Pauch Jr. spun coming off of the final turn collecting Jimmy Blewett and Neal Williams as Godown crossed the line fourth. Jimmy Horton drove around that tangle to come home fifth.

Mike Haggenbottom of Levittown, PA used a well-executed last lap slide job to win his second race of the year in the New Egypt RaceSavers 305 Sprint Car 20 lap feature. Adam Carberry drove a tremendous race as he took the lead from Phil Meisner, Jr. on lap five and held the top spot until the final turn when Haggenbottom made his dramatic move. Carberry earned a well-deserved but disappointing second, followed by Meisner, Rory Janney and Mark Bitner.

The Crate Modified 20 lap feature event was won by Matt Carman of Milford, NJ. Carman held off Bryan Kuhl and his brother Mike to earn his second career win. Point leader Mike Butler was fourth and Paul Hartwig rounded out the top five.

Next Saturday, July 12th, it is the annual Christmas in July celebration at New Egypt Speedway featuring the USMC Toys for Tots drive. Donate to the toy drive, and get chances to win some fabulous prizes during the evening. There is also rumor of a couple of special guests from the North Pole making and appearance. The 358 Modifieds, NERS 305 Sprint Cars, Sportsman & Street Stocks will be in action on the speedway. Gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with the first race starting at 6:00 pm.
