Nothing Can Slow Pauch Down, Sails to New Egypt Victory

New Egypt, NJ (May 3, 2014) – Defending & Six-time champion Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, NJ rebounded back from his post-race technical DQ last week and won his fourth feature Saturday at New Egypt Speedway. Pauch dominated the 30 lap Modified main event, coming from the rear twice to record the 120th win of his career at NES. After running down leader Pat Wall, Pauch made the winning pass with five laps to go in Turn 4 by driving around the outside of Wall and crossing the line first again, a feat he has accomplished in all five events this season.

“Pat Wall drove a great race!” exclaimed Pauch in victory lane, “When he saw me try the inside he switched his groove down to the inside like he should have done. I really didn’t know if I could roll the top around him, but my crew gave me another great car this week and it stuck.”

PJ Oliver grabbed the lead on the initial start only to have a yellow come out for a tangle involving Jimmy Blewett, Sammy Piazza and Willie Osmun which eliminated Osmun from the event. The restart saw outside pole starter Tim Apgar charge into the lead as the yellow appeared again for a tangle involving several cars including Neal Williams and 2012 champion Ryan Godown. Apgar again led on the restart and he held that lead through two more caution periods over the first 6 laps. At this point Pauch had already moved up to sixth from his 16th starting spot, however a loose Sail Panel forced Pauch to the pits for some quick repairs. As the green flew once again Apgar continued to lead as Pat Wall was making his presence known as he challenged for the top spot. Lap nine saw the crowd rise to their feet as Godown & Pauch got together on the front stretch with Pauch spinning wildly and Godown being penalized to the rear of the field by track officials. With the green back out to stay, Wall captured the top spot and began to drive away from the field with Cox and Blewett taking up the pursuit. Blewett was fast as he took over second place, but Wall had him covered as he stretched his lead to a half of a straightaway. Meanwhile Pauch was flying back to the front as he pulled back into the top five by lap 15, and the marched to second place by lap 20. Pauch then quickly reeled in the leader and after several laps of trying the inside groove, He went to the outside of turns three and four and roared into the lead. The final five laps saw him drive away to the win. Wall finished his great run a solid second as a fast closing Blewett ended up third. Godown completed his charge up from the back getting fourth at the finish line by just inches over Tad Cox who settled for fifth.

The Crate Modifieds finished their rain-stopped feature from last week and then ran a regular 20 lap feature. In the completion of the final 13 laps from last Saturday, Steve Hicks grabbed his third career victory as he held off a late challenge from new point leader Chuck Steuer. Jordan Cox, who led part of the race, came home third chased by Ebby Ridge and Ryan Simmons.

The regularly scheduled 20 lap event for the Crate Modifieds went to Milford NJ’s Mike Butler. Butler had already won a Sportsman feature this year, and has now won a feature in both divisions for the second straight year. Butler smoothly drove to the front during the first half of the event, taking the lead at halfway from leader Jason Bittner and then holding off a strong challenge from last year’s rookie champ Chuckles Stone to post the victory. Bryan Kuhl came from deep in the pack to finish third, with earlier winner Steve Hicks and 2-time defending champ Eric Palmer rounding out the top five.

The Street Stock 20 lapper was won by Gary Klimeczak of Chatsworth, NJ. Klimeczak held off defending champ Dan Collamer thru a light but steady drizzle in the final couple laps to record his 13th career win at NES, his first in 2 years. The win puts him just 2 victories behind last week’s winner John Carpenter on the All-Time win list. Collamer held on for second, with Jarrod Burdge, Bill Liedtka and Carpenter completing the top five.

The HCI/SpikeNGo Rookie Sportsman Series 8 lap feature event was taken for the second time by point leader Derek Krum of New Egypt, NJ. Last week’s winner Branden Clauss was a distant second and Kevin Dale finished third.

Next Saturday, May 10, it is Mother’s Day Saturday at New Egypt Speedway with all Mom’s receiving a free flower courtesy of Gasko Family Farms of Monroe Twp., NJ. 358 Modifieds, NERS 305 Sprint Cars, Sportsman and the HCI/Spike-N-Go Rookie series will be in action.
