PAUCH JR, HAUS, FITZPATRICK JR., AND BUTLER ALL GET FIRST WINS OF 2014 AT BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY

MINERSVILLE, PA – May 4th, 2014

Billy Pauch Jr. took the lead on lap #6 and never looked back, taking his first win of the season at Big Diamond Speedway in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar 358 Modifieds on Friday, May 2nd.

Tim Buckwalter led at the drop of the green from his front row starting spot, leading the first 5 laps of the 25 lap event.  During this time, Pauch Jr. and Rick Laubach were making their way to the front from their 6th and 9th place starting positions.  On lap #6 Pauch made his move past Buckwalter entering turn number three, taking a lead he would never relinquish on his way to his first victory of the season and 7th of his career at the Minersville oval.  Laubach was able to wrestle the number two spot away from Buckwalter on lap #9, but despite racing in heavy lapped traffic late in the race, he was never able to seriously challenge Pauch Jr. for the win.  Buckwalter came home third in a great run for the #762 team, followed by Craig Von Dohren, Duane Howard, and Meme Desantis.  Over the last half of the race these three drivers were the ones to watch, swapping those three positions back and forth with some crowd pleasing racing. Stewart Friesen came home 7th, with rookie Jared Umbenhauer, Kyle Follweiler, and Frank Cozze rounding out the top ten positions.  Thirty-two DIRTcar 358 modifieds came out to race for the first regular show of the season, with heat wins going to Stewart Friesen, Meme Desantis, and Andy Burkhart.  Colt Harris won the consolation event.

Scott Haus bolted into the lead from his pole starting spot and led all 20 laps of the non-stop Jeremy Slifko Fabrication Services Late Model event.  Points leader Billy Wampler followed Haus to the checkered flag, followed by Andrew Haus, Ben Whitaker, and Danny Snyder.  For Whitaker it was his first start of the season at Big Diamond in the Late Model division.  Heat races were won by Andrew Haus and opening day winner Sean Merkel.

In the Savage 61 Roadrunner feature event, last weeks feature winner Jeremy Becker jumped into the lead from the outside pole position at the drop of the green flag.  Becker was able to hold the top spot through several caution flag periods, but was never able to pull out to a huge lead, with third starting Tim Fitzpatrick Jr. and 5th starting Shon Elk able to stay within striking distance.  When the caution flag flew for a spinning Kyle Wingle on lap #12, the field was told that they were going green, white, checkered due to time limitations.  That was all the encouragement Fitzpatrick Jr. and Elk needed.  On the restart Fitzpatrick Jr. was all over the back bumper of Becker, with Elk in tow.  Going down the backstretch and into turn three on the final lap, Fitzpatrick Jr. made his move down to the inside of Becker.  Between turns three and four Fitzpatrick Jr. drifted up the track, forcing Becker to go high to avoid contact.  That opened the door for Elk, and coming down to the checkered it was anyone’s race.  Three wide they crossed at the flag stand, with Fitzpatrick Jr. taking his first career victory in the Roadrunner division over Elk and Becker.  All three drivers were within car length of one another at the finish.  Coming home fourth and having the best view of the battle for the win was Devin Trexler, followed by Jesse Krasnitsky.  Sixth thru tenth were Chris Holland, Joe Kavanaugh, Jim Kost, Bruce Ditzler, and Jared Seigfried.  Heat races were won by Jim Kost and TJ Fitzpatrick.

In the time shortened XCEL 600cc Modified event, Bobby Butler came home the winner in the 7 lap event over Richie Hitzler, Aaron Bowes, Kailee Dimorier, and Mike Burrows.

Next Friday, May 9th, racing returns to Big Diamond Speedway featuring the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, along with the USS Achey Sportsman, Savage 61 Roadrunner, and the return of the Super Sportsman to Big Diamond Speedway.  Gates open at 5 PM, warm-ups are at 7:45 PM, and the first heat hits the track at 8:15 PM.
