WORLD OF OUTLAWS SPRINT CAR SERIES (30 entries)
Originally from Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Stewart Friesen now resides in Sprakers, New York with wife Jessica Zemken. Primarily a Modified driver, Stewart Friesen was competing in just the fourth World of Outlaws Sprint Car series event of his career on Tuesday as he filled in for Zemken, who is expecting the couple’s first child.  Zemken became the first woman to win the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals at Ohsweken last season, while Friesen is now the first Canadian to win a World of Outlaws feature on home soil. His win is the first World of Outlaws triumph for a Canadian since Tim Gee went to victory lane at Paragon, Indiana on July 13, 1983.

The annual Six Nations Showdown A-Feature saw 4 drivers officially trade the lead 5 times over the 30 lap distance on the very slick surface. Pole-sitter Brad Sweet led the first lap before the series championship points leader Donny Schatz took over and set off in search of his third consecutive Six Nations Showdown victory. Schatz was beginning to thread his way through slower traffic on lap 9 when Paige Polyak stopped in turn 2 with a flat left front tire to bring out the yellow flag.

Logan Schuchart restarted third behind Schatz and Sweet and moved into the lead on lap 12, while Friesen got by Sweet for third on the same lap. Friesen then passed Schatz 2 laps later, but the top 3 cars were close together when Schuchart quickly caught the back end of the field again. Parker Price-Miller and David Gravel were also into the top 5 at this point, and closing on the leaders. Friesen officially led lap 18 after an outside move, but Schuchart quickly recovered the lead.

Schuchart and Friesen raced close together and made contact exiting turn 4 on lap 22, when Friesen took over the lead for good. Friesen opened a lead during the next few laps while Schatz and Price-Miller moved past Schuchart, but Friesen’s gap went away when the yellow flag came out for Jason Sides’ spin in turn three. Friesen kept Schatz behind him during the 2 lap dash to the finish to score a popular win with the large crowd on hand. Schatz settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Price-Miller, Schuchart, and Daryn Pittman.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS (36 entries)
Brady Longboat led the first lap of the Thunder Stock feature, but the was barely underway when Bryce Richardson, Mark Fawcett, and Ryan Dinning were caught up in a crash which forced Fawcett to retire from the event. Dereck Lemyre took the lead after the restart before giving way to Chris Dickie, who in turn saw 21st starter Ken Sargent get past him on lap 10.

Sargent opened a large lead, but saw that advantage disappear with 4 laps left when Jeremy May spun and brought out a yellow flag. Wyatt Van Wart had moved through the field from 24th on the grid, with 17th starter Karl Sault also in the mix at the front. Van Wart challenged Sargent for the lead, but Sault managed to pass both of them on lap 23. Sargent’s hopes were dashed when he made contact with the backstretch wall and lost a wheel on lap 24.

Sault restarted the race in the lead with 2 laps to go, with Van Wart and Dickie behind him. Van Wart stayed close behind Sault, and the two drivers made contact exiting turn 2 on the last lap. Sault and Van Wart were briefly hooked together, which allowed Dickie to sneak by for the win, while Sault spun. Van Wart recovered to take the runner-up spot, followed by rim-riding 20th starter Dave Bailey, Lemyre, and Chase Hess.

Bailey’s lead in the championship standings now stands at 8 points over Van Wart.
