RUDALAVAGE MAKES LATE RACE PASS TO WIN MODIFIED FEATURE AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY

Susquehanna, PA…Alan Rudalavage of Newton Lake, Pennsylvania stayed patient during the running of the thirty lap modified feature. After chasing down race leader Adam MacGeorge of Montrose, Rudalavage caqme to the inside and took the lead with laps running out in the event. In the 602 sportsman feature Dusty Barton of Susquehanna was declared the winner when Ryan Olsommer of Lake Ariel was put back one position for lap five contact. In the street stock feature Steve Deinhardt of Windsor, New York chased down Ray Linquist to win for the second time this season. Eric Beach of Susquehanna stayed hot winning again in the factory stocks. The four cylinder division had a first time winner in Nick Kennedy of Windsor with Dakota Armstrong winning the SRP sprint feature.

After a first lap caution that sent the modified field scrambling, Adam MacGeorge took the lead over Billy Thornton, Mike Nagel, and Joey Colsten. With the drivers settling into position MacGeorge started to pull away from the field until and eleventh lap caution for a slowed car regrouped the field. On the ensuing restart, drivers again had to take evasive action for the diabled car of last week’s winner, KevinHartnett. When the race reached the halfway point MacGeorge held strong over an hard charging Alan Rudalavage, Nagel, Thornton, and poiunt leader Nick Roshinski who made repairs after a first lap tangle.

As the race continued, Rudalavage pressured MacGeorge lap after lap. Without the aid of a caution Rudalavage chased and eventually made the pass with only three laps remaining in the feature event. Rudalavage would hold on to win his first of the season. MacGeorge had his best outing of the year and came home second followed by Nagel, Thornton, and Roshinski.

Brian Mady brought the 602 sportsman to the flag of their twenty lap feature. Mady lead the pack for the first five circuits until Ryan Olsommer put on the heavy pressure and made the pass with what officials deemed excessive contact. A one position penaltywas announced for the next caution but unfortunately for Olsommer, the caution never flew and the spot was taken after the checkered flag flew giving the win to Dusty Barton.

In the street stock feature Ray Linquist looked to be the man to beat. Again without any cautions flying during the entire contest, Steve Deinhardt worked his way through the field and eventually took the lead on sixteen. Linquist came home second in his beat run of the year followed by last week’s winner Shane Wolf, Ryan Stone, and Randy Fox.

Eric Beach continued his hot streak in the factory stocks winning for the third time this season over Gary Cleveland, Rich Green, Josh Towner, and Ned Fitch. In the four cylinders Nick Kennedy won for the first time ever at Penn Can over Frank Kennedy, Kenny Underwood, Andy Brigham, and Don Doster Jr.

Will Eastman won the exhibition Xcel modified feature after a hard fought battle with Kamdin Maby and Jason Dunkleberger. In their first ever appearance at Penn Can Dakota Armstrong won the SRP 600 Sprint feature over David Smith, Cliff Pierce, and Kyle Pierce.

PENN NOTES: Track conditions again were smooth and dust free with modified winner Alan Rudalavage commenting in Victory Lane about the bite in the track he found late in the race to make the pass for the win. Alex Stanton was making one of his last starts in the modified. Stanton, a recent college graduate, is starting a new job out of the area. The Clash at the Can is scheduled for Tuesday with both the ROC Modifieds and ROC Sportsman in competition. A large field of cars is expected for this early summer special.
