Osmun Wins Back to School Night at New Egypt Speedway
New Egypt, NJ (August 30, 2014) – Willie Osmun of Bloomsbury, NJ ended the Summer on a high note Saturday night as he captured his first win of the season in the 30 lap Modified feature at New Egypt Speedway on Back to School night. Osmun took the lead from Gary Butler just before the halfway mark of the event and cruised to his 6th career win at the Central Jersey facility.
DJ Ruppert led the field at the drop of the green with outside pole-starter Gary Butler giving chase. Ruppert led the first couple of laps before Butler roared around the leader to assume command. Butler set a fast pace as seventh starting Osmun quickly charged into the top 3 by the third lap. Osmun wasted no time getting by Ruppert, but Butler proved to be more of a challenge as all he could do was keep up with him over the next 10 laps. Butler looked good, but Osmun kept applying the pressure until he found the bite he was looking for as he drove under the leader off of turn four before halfway. Once in front Osmun opened a comfortable lead as Butler had his hands full behind him as point leader and 2012 champ Ryan Godown moved in to challenge Butler. This duo battled side by side right down to the final turn with Butler holding on for second by just half of a car length. Osmun cruised in front, masterfully negotiating lapped traffic for the popular win, Butler and Godown followed him across the line for second and third while David Van Horn finished fourth and Danny Bouc fifth.
Chuck Steuer of Bohemia, NY also won his first feature of the season, his third career, in the 20 lap Crate Modified feature event. Steuer, a former Riverhead NY Asphalt Modified champion, announced in victory lane his plans to move up into the Modified division in 2015. Steuer started ninth and held off Mike Butler over the second half of the race to post the victory. Butler came home second trailed by Bryan Kuhl, 24th starter Jarrett Rozycki and John Micek.
The Street Stock 20 lap feature event was won for the second straight time by Ron Frees of Brick, NJ. Frees survived numerous yellow flags early and then raced to the win over defending champ Dan Collamer. Bill Connolly was third, Gary Klimeczak finished fourth and Tom Princiotta completed the top five.
Next Saturday, Sept. 6th, Investors Bank presents First Responders Night at New Egypr Speedway. All First Responders with ID will receive FREE General Admission and will be treated to a full card of 358 Modifieds, Sportsman & NERS 305 Sprint Cars. Gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with the first race starting at 6:00 pm.
