Mike Butler Wins 2nd Straight Crate Feature at New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ (May 17, 2014) – Mike Butler of Milford, NJ won his second feature in a row by taking top honors in the 20 lap Crate Modified feature event Saturday at New Egypt Speedway. Butler drove from 17th starting spot to the front in just 9 laps and then held off a late race challenge from Mike Carman as he cruised to his third career victory.

Robbie Dunn lead the field into turn one at the start as fifth place starter Andrew Bohn quickly roared up to challenge. Bohn wasted no time grabbing the lead as the exited turn four to complete lap one and he quickly took command of the field. As Bohn raced out to more than a half of a straightaway lead, point leader Chuck Steuer was moving up quickly from his 15th starting slot as he raced into the top five by lap four as he battled with John Micek and Brian Papiez. Mike Butler then quickly moved onto the scene and showed that he was going to be a factor in this race. Butler quickly got under Steuer and raced into second on lap 8, then charging past Bohn for the lead just before halfway. Once in front Butler looked to run away and hide, however in the final 5 laps, Mike Carman had other ideas as he had found something up on the cushion. Carman applied relentless pressure over the final 3 laps, but Butler was up to the challenge as he hit all of his marks and took the checkered 1 car length ahead of Carman. Matt Carman finished right behind his brother in the third spot, followed by Steuer and John Aumick.

PJ Gargiulo won his first ARDC Main event in 6 years in their 20 lap tour event. Gargiulo lead all 20 laps, but it was anything but easy as he battled for the first half of the race with Steven Drivicki, who had won the first event at NES last month. Then after halfway Alex Bright, the winner at NES last September joined in for a spirited three-car battle for the lead! A final restart with 2 laps remaining saw Bright throw everything he had at Gargiulo including pulling under him and drawing even entering turn three on the final lap, but Gargiulo did not waver and drove around him off the corner to record only his second ever ARDC Main event win. Bright was a close second, with Drivicki crossing the line third. Ryan Greth and Nick Wean completed the top five.

The Street Stock 20 lapper was won by defending champ Dan Collamer of Waretown, NJ. Collamer won the race thru the field with point leader Bill Liedtka. Liedtka was challenging for the lead when his right rear wheel broke entering turn one ending his night. Collamer drove on to the victory and has taken over the point lead. Brian Ludwig raced home second ahead of Darren Cox, opening night winner John Carpenter and Tom Princiotta.

Tuesday evening will be the much anticipated STP World of Outlaws event as the tour makes their one stop in New Jersey for 2014. This event will mark the final appearance for the “King of the Outlaws” Steve Kinser, who is retiring at the end of this season.
