Tramontana, Dupree & Nardelli Win at New Egypt Saturday;

Five Division Champions Are Crowned

(Sept. 18, 2021):  Anthony Tramontana of Vineland, NJ, Will Dupree of Somerset, NJ & Lee Nardelli of Bridgeton, NJ drove to victory Saturday night in their 20 lap feature events on Championship Night at New Egypt Speedway.  Tramontana captured his first career win in the Racersguide Crate Modified feature, Dupree won his first Sportsman feature in over two years, and Nardelli took top honors in the Larry’s Hot Rods and Harley’s NEWS Sprint Cars for the first time since April.  

All 5 division champions were crowned following each of the feature events. Long time NES competitor Pat Wall won his first ever championship by finishing fifth in the Crate Modified main event. Justin Grosso won his first championship capturing the Sportsman division crown with a solid third place feature finish. Rich Mellor clinched his third straight NEWS Sprint title with his third place feature run. Rob Ormsbee won his 11th Street Stock feature of the season and was crowned champion for the first time in this division, and Justin Dunn won his first out-right John Blewett Inc. 4-Cylinder title after being a co-champ last season.

2019 Rookie champion Anthony Tramontana won his career first Racersguide.com Crate Modified 20 lap feature, holding off a persistent George Garies Jr. for the victory.  Justin Grosso won a race-long battle with Ryan Simmons to finish third and take second in the final point standings.  Simmons came home fourth with champion Pat Wall getting fifth in a photo finish with Paul Mancini. 

Will Dupree won his first feature in just over two years in the Sportsman 20 lap main event. Dupree thwarted Anthony Tramontana’s bid to sweep the night, as he held off the Crate Modified winner at the checkered. Tramontana ended his stellar night with a second place finish, just barely edging out division champ Justin Grosso who finished third. Paul Mancini and Ricky Moran completed the top five.       

Lee Nardelli went wire to wire to capture his fourth career Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s NEWS Wingless Sprint Car 20 lap feature. Young hot shoe Shea Wills came home second with Rich Mellor finishing third and claiming his third straight division title. Stan Ploski had an excellent run thru the field and finished fourth while Brian Spencer came charging back thru the field after a lap 8 tangle to finish fifth.       

The Street Stock 15 lap feature was won by Rob Ormsbee for the 11th time this season in 12 events. 2020 champ Brian Ludwig did everything he could to challenge Ormsbee but settled for second in the end.  Spider Ensinger Jr, Lee Allen and Derek Jones rounded out the top five.  

Scott Dunn bounced back from last week’s hard frontstretch crash, and raced to victory in the 15 lap John Blewett Inc. 4-Cylinder feature event. Dunn was dominant early and then held off Rich Page and his son, Justin Dunn, to win for the fifth time this season.  Justin Dunn was crowned champion for the second straight year following his third place finish.  Tim Jones and Joe Garey Jr. rounded out the top five. 

Next up at New Egypt Speedway will be the All-Star Cup weekend on Friday Oct. 1 & Sat. Oct. 2, highlighted by the 100 lap $10,000 to win Modified All-Star Cup Shootout.  The weekend gets underway on Friday evening Oct. 1st with the Racersguide.com Crate Modified Underdog Race. This is a 20 lap event open to any and all drivers who have not won a feature event at NES this season. In addition, the six Crate Mod feature winners at NES this season will take part in a 5 lap Cash Dash on this night as well. More info on these two events will be released in the next couple days on NES’ website and social media.  

The Crates will be joined on the card by the Open Sportsman, Street Stocks and the Vintage Cars. The Modifieds are invited to come & practice during Friday’s event, in preparation for their big race on Saturday.  Gates open for the grandstand at 5pm, with Warm-ups at 6pm & racing getting underway at 7pm.

Then on Saturday Oct. 2nd is the 100 lap All-Star Cup Shootout for the Modifieds paying $10,000 to win, $1000 for tenth and $400 to start. The Crate Modifieds will be in action once again, along with the NEWS wingless Sprints and the John Blewett Inc. 4-Cylinders. Pit Gates will open at 3pm, Grandstands at 4pm, Hot Laps for all divisions will start at 5pm, and racing gets underway at 6pm.
