MULTI-TIME TRACK CHAMPION, STEVE PAINE RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE

CANANDAIGUA, NY- July 25, 2016- Steve Paine made his return to victory lane last Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park after many dry years. Kevin Root led from the start to win his first sportsman feature of the year at the track. Jason Doty took his turn in the Pure Stock feature in victory lane. Steve Pesarek won the Crate Late Model main and Lee Sanders took top honors in the 305 Sprints.
A number of flips took place during the night. In the 305 Sprints Dave French flipped out of the park over turn one. Dan Wiesner flipped in the modified feature.
Eldon Payne was the early leader in the Modified feature, leading laps one to ten. Lap eleven saw Mike O’Brien bring out the yellow after making heavy contact with the wall. He was able to return after making repairs.
Leader Eldon Payne brought out the next yellow, lap 12, after hitting the second turn wall. His race was over for the night. By this time track points leader Matt Sheppard was up to third. The Payne accident moved him into second behind Steve Paine.
Lap 14 saw yet another yellow when Derrick Podsiadlo broke the front end on his car. The restart saw Sheppard take off after Paine, but lapped traffic would eventually slow his pace. The yellow flew again, lap 31, when Gary Tomkins and Dan Wiesner got tangled in the first turn. During these closing laps Sheppard suddenly realized he had a right rear tire going flat. He ducked into the pits and returned with new rubber, but far behind the field. He then drove off the track to bring out a yellow. Officials deemed this an intentional yellow and placed him a lap down.
Paine went on for the win. Tim Fuller, Mat Williamson, Billy Decker and Peter Britten rounded out the top five finishers.
There is no racing this coming Saturday, July 30, to make room for the annual Ontario County Fair.
