800x600-I8nzB93mRV2opTx319431Afton NY.- June 5, 2016- Middletown’s Scott Goodrich led every lap of the Champion Power Equipment-Super Gen Products CRSA Sprint car feature at I-88 Speedway. Goodrich started third and took the early lead over pole sitter Art Kiser, of Milford.

With Goodrich leading, Middletown’s Brian Krummel moved into second from his fifth starting position in the 21 car field shuffling Kiser to third.  While Lake Ariel PA’s Eddie Strada ran fourth.

By lap 8 the leaders had moved into heavy lapped traffic with Strada surrending third on lap 13 to Cooperstown’s Mike Kiser.

The first caution of the race would come out on lap 16 for a spinning Brett Jaycox, of East Durham. With a clear track in front of him, Goodrich would go on to take the win with Krummel second, Mike Kiser third, Sparrowbush’s Billy Van Inwegen fourth and Kyle Smith, of South Egremont MA fifth.

800x600-rQ4N7tjP5D8x319432“Everything went great tonight. Great starting spot and what a great outcome. The track was real slick, which I like a slick racetrack. The thing was on rails tonight,” said the winner in a post race interview.

Charlie Hendrickson Jr. came out on top of a torrid three car battle with Jeremy Vunk and Aaron Shelton for the checkers in the Chambers and O’Hara Sportsmen feature. Hendrickson, of Bethel, took the lead with two laps to go as the leaders came off turn four three wide with Hendrickson winning the drag race to turn one.

Bainbridge’s Tyler Hart took the early lead in the 20 lap event from the outside of the front row starting position. Vunk, of Edmeston, passed Afton’s Skip Pickwick on lap three to take over second.

The caution would come out when Rockdale’s Tim French spun out in turn four. The race restarted with Hart leading, Vunk holding down second, Pickwick third, Walton’s Shelton fourth and Claude Hutchings Jr., of Sauquoit fifth. Capitalizing on his outside starting position, Vunk shot into the lead at the line as the caution came out for a three car tangle in turn four.

With four laps complete Hendrickson had now moved into fourth with Hutchings in fifth. The race restarted and Hendrickson moved to the outside line and in a three wide race for second off turn two resulted in Shelton taking over the second spot, Hart holding down third and Hendrickson still in fourth. Hendrickson would work his way past Hart and then begin to pressure Shelton for second.

At the halfway point Vunk led a tight three car race with Shelton second and Hendrickson third. Shelton would take advantage of lapped traffic on lap 14 to take the lead off turn four. With Shelton running the inside and Vunk running the outside Hendrickson was looking for a way around the leaders.

With five laps remaining Shelton and Vunk went past the finish line wheel to wheel with Hendrickson right on their tails. The leaders would run wheel to wheel until lap 17 when Hendrickson went three wide on the outside and took the lead heading into turn one.

After a lap 19 caution, the race restarted with Hendrickson leading the remaining lap to take the win. Vunk finished second with Shelton third, Hutchings fourth and North Branch’s Rudy Roth fifth.

Rob Nober, of Mount Upton, Windsor’s Matt Bowman would bring the 16 car Nu Look Collision Street Stock starting lineup to the green flag with Bowman taking the early lead. The first caution of the race would come out when Dryden’s Jon Carpenter slowed on the front stretch. Bowman would lead the restart with Oneonta’s Dustin Harris second, Downsville’s Dave Cronk third and Doug Polhamus, of Windsor, fourth.

After a lap six caution Bowman would pull away from the field opening a half straightaway lead over Harris. Polhamus had moved into third with Cronk maintaining fourth.

A la 16 caution bunched the field for a restart. When the green came out Polhamus would move under Harris to take over second. Another caution came out on lap 18 for a three car tangle. During the caution period Polhamus was penalized two spots for the pass on the last restart putting Cronk in second, Doug Stack, of Athens PA, third and Polhamus fourth.

Bowman would go on to take his first win of the season  with Cronk finishing second, Stack third, Polhamus fourth and Lakewood’s Tom Savercool fifth.

In the Vernooy’s Automotive Excellence IMCA Modified feature Nineveh’s Gary Roberts picked up a ride in an ailing Mike Stoddard’s car and drove it to his first win of the season. Starting second on the grid, Roberts led the distance holding off Matt Cole, of Binghamton, at the end of the race. Cobleskill’s Will Ward finished third with Katellville’s Tyler Stoddard fourth and Coventry’s Jim Cummings came home fifth in his second start of the season.
