dm 16x dc 2064 (1000x668)CENTER LISLE, NY –June 5, 2016- For the first time in his career, Danny Creeden reached Thunder Mountain Speedway Victory Lane on Saturday night.

Creeden, of Wurtsboro, N.Y., annexed the 30-lap big-block/small-block Modified main at the Center Lisle three-eighths-mile oval. Creeden had attended special events at the facility in prior seasons but made the decision to call Thunder Mountain his 2016 Saturday home during the off-season. He received his first $1,200 winner’s share on Saturday.

For the race’s first two-thirds, Lake Ariel, Pa., driver Brian Malcolm paced the field in the Chuck Grimm-fielded Waymart Building Center No. 119. Malcolm has endured a slew of misfortune during the early portions of the season and took advantage of handicapping to lead the race’s first 20 laps.

Creeden, however, had other ideas. He took over the lead at lap 21 and paced the remainder of the distance for the victory in his Hig Fab Chassis No. 16X.

Malcolm settled for second, his best finish of the season. Brent Wilcox, back in the Coar-Clark No. 27 after engine woes on practice day, finished third. Wilcox had been driving the Gary Tomkins No. 84 team car for points. Jeremy Smith finished fourth, righting his early season woes, and Ryan Jordan completed the front five.

IMG_7704 (1000x668)Berkshire, N.Y., driver Chance Spoonhower broke into the Open Sportsman win column, taking home $700 for his efforts in the 20-lap main. After a rugged early going, Spoonhower outdistanced Larry Mekic for the triumph. Mekic, a Micro-Sprint graduate from Moscow, Pa., registered his season-best result in second, followed by Larry Hillis, returning former track champion Eddie White and two-time winner Geordie Decker.

Sophomore Crate 602 Sportsman driver Isaiah Forward of Bouckville, N.Y., burst into the division’s win column for the first time on Saturday night. Forward reached the lead on the fifth lap and then survived a last-lap restart to take home the $500 winner’s share in the 20-lap event.

Forward is a former FWD Four Cylinder champion who moved into the Crate 602 Sportsman division last year.

Kailee DiMorier finished a strong second, with Brian Mady, Shayne Spoonhower and Mike Nagel Jr. completing the front five.

Berkshire, N.Y., youngster Connor Spoonhower won the 15-lap Rookie Sportsman feature over Ryan Alsdorf and Dan Allen.

Following a long week to complete repairs from an incident at another facility, Jonathan Carpenter of New Milford, Pa., won the 20-lap Street Stock feature. Carpenter, who thanked car builder Joel Batzel of Nitro Chassis for his efforts, won $500. He was trailed by Trevor Dudley, Earl Zimmer, Matt Spencer (from 21st) and Toby Lehr.

m 8 jy 2003 (1000x668)The NY6A Micro-Sprints made their second ’16 visit to Thunder Mountain. Jim Young registered the victory in a fast-paced 20-lap main, followed by Jared Zeinkowski, Jacob Leycyk, Danny Knoll and Clayton Brewer.

Tom Shiner returned to Thunder Mountain competition and the Vestal, N.Y., driver took a 20-lap feature win in the XCel 600 Modified ranks. Will Eastman, Chris Jordan (pulling XCel 600 Mod/Open Sportsman double-duty), Eric Boyd and Abby Price filled out the front five.

Michael Robinson of Harpursville, N.Y., remains undefeated in FWD Four Cylinder competition. In the 15-lap main, Robinson led Rich Gardiner, Frankie Kennedy, Gabe Forward and Sheldon Whitman across the stripe.
