Craftsman World of Outlaws Invade to Kick Off 2016

WEEDSPORT, NY- May 18, 2016- The Craftsman World of Outlaws are set to invade “The Port” on Sunday, May 22nd. This marks the return of the Empire State Challenge, New York State’s only regular season appearance for the “Greatest Show on Dirt” where the Outlaws hope to take the money and run.
The Northeast’s best Sportsman Modified competitors will begin their quest for glory, as Sunday kicks off the 2016 Napa Sportsman Shootout Series. While taking in the action, fans on hand will be a part of history as the sun sets on the 2016 season opener. Weedsport Speedway will “Light it Up” for he first time under the all new LED lighting system.
The state of the art LED system is the first of its kind in the motorsports industry, and the entertainent capabilities are a “must see!” Along with the new lighting, a huge 27 foot Jumbotron now commands the infield area for fans to get an up close view of all the action. Live coverage, instant replays, and behind the scenes pit reports are just the beginning!
Fans of the Craftsman World of Outlaw Sprintcar Series have been all smiles in the early running of the 2016 season. “The racing to date has been second to none”, stated Speedway General Manager Jimmy Phelps, “and its been a long time since we have seen so many teams running at a championship level. We couldn’t ask for a better way to kick off our 2016 season, and we can’t wait to open the doors!”
The Empire State challenge will truly be a must see, and combined with the opener for the Napa Sportsman Shootout Series, it doesn’t get any better.
While the Grandstands officially open at 2 PM, fans are encouraged to come out early and make a day of it. The midway will be open at noon with exhibits, souvenir trailers, and more. The pit area will be open to the public from noon until 1:45 PM for those wanting to get an up close look and to interact with the cars and stars of the “Greatest Show on Dirt”. Come early to help Weedport Speedway “Light it Up” for this groundbreaking event!
