Thomas Montgomery Masters Weedsport with $1,000 PRO Clone Victory
WEEDSPORT, NY (July 13, 2020) – Thomas Montgomery earned the biggest win of his karting career on Sunday afternoon at Weedsport Kartway, topping a stout field of 25 PRO Clone 360 racers to claim $1,000 in winner’s cash.
Starting from the seventh position in the lineup, Montgomery stayed patient and methodically worked his way by some of the best kart racers in the region for his third career A-Main win at The Short Port.
At the conclusion of 30-laps, Montgomery was trailed by Pennsylvania karting standout, Missy Bootes, with defending Weedsport champions David Hackett Jr. and Nick McGill hot on her heels ahead of Richard Murtaugh in the top five.
The second half of the front ten positions was filled by Chris Natoli, Chris Pier, Dan Marsden, Logan Winn and Doug Stearly.
McGill was the Hard Charger of the PRO main event, sponsored by Mike LaClair, earning $50 after driving from 17th on the grid to fourth.
Before taking the checkered flag in the PRO A-Main, Montgomery also drove to victory in the Clone Light points paying feature event over Marsden, Murtaugh, Sabrina Palmer and Madison Myers.
Clone Heavy saw Murtaugh earn his fifth career win at Weedsport, beating a stellar field including defending champion McGill, Montgomery, Pier and Dustin Prettyleaf.
McGill, who came on strong during the second half of the day on Sunday, did manage to run away with the victory in Clone Super Heavy over Jordan Hutton, Jordan Sullivan, Justin Pier and Tyler Henry.
Owen Bird continued his winning ways in the junior ranks at Weedsport on Sunday, making a late race pass on Logan Crisafulli to win the day’s $250 PRO Jr. Unrestricted A-Main. Bird and Crisafulli topped Seth Whitney, Hunter Hollenbeck and Dylan Begy in the front five spots.
Bird would also take the win in Jr. Blue Clone over Whitney, Anthony Pollow, Jacob Hutton and Begy. With each win, Bird now owns 12 career victories at Weedsport.
While Crisafulli slipped to second late in the PRO Jr. Unrestricted main, he did take the checkered flag in the points paying event for Unrestricted, beating out Whitney, Hollenbeck, Bird and Tyler Emmons.
Weedsport’s youngest junior division, Jr. Red Clone, was won in convincing fashion by Levi Herriven. Herriven crossed the line ahead of Chloe Tiffany and Wyatt Mullen.
Ayden Silvernail was the big winner in Jr. Green Clone with Blake Banek, Grayson Adderley, Cody Stebbins and Savannah Simmons in tow.
Jr. Purple Clone saw a runaway win for Parker Allen ahead of Chris Duclos, Casey Pietrzak, Sam Heffner and Justin Crisafulli.
Weedsport Kartway returns to action on Sunday, August 30 for the second round of the Super Kart Series, which will feature point events for Weedsport’s eight standard divisions. Joining the day’s racing will be the 2nd annual PRO Clone 360 Kart Cup Twin 20’s, paying $500 to win each 20-lap feature. A Kart Cup Bonus of another $500 will be paid to the driver with the best overall finish between the two mains.
