CENTER LISLE, NY – The ‘thunder rolls’ this Sunday, September 23.

After rain nixed the first shot in May, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco big-block/small-block Modifieds make their first appearance of the season this Sunday night at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y.

A payout totaling $25,000-plus awaits the ground-pounding STSS Modifieds for 50 laps at the fifth running of ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ at the three-eighths-mile clay oval: $5,000 to the winner, $1,000 for 10th and $400 just to take the green flag. Bonuses, certificates and special awards sweeten the pot further for competitors.

The ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ serves as Race No. 7 of 9 in the STSS Halmar International North Region en route to a $12,500 championship. Billy Decker of Sidney, N.Y., currently leads the standings. Decker has never won a championship with the Short Track Super Series.

Joining the STSS Modifieds on the tripleheader card are the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman in a 25-lap, $1,000-to-win event, Race No. 4 of the five North Region Crate 602 events.

After the most recent STSS Crate 602 Sportsman event on Labor Day weekend, Tom Collins Jr. of Lansing, N.Y., takes over the point lead in the North Region.

Street Stocks will also be on the agenda with a $1,000 top prize being awarded at the finish of 20 laps.

For the ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ event, pit gates open at 2 p.m. Grandstand gates unlock at 3 p.m. Hot laps get underway at 5 p.m. Racing begins at 6 p.m.

Adult admission is $22. Seniors (ages 65 and over), Students (ages 10-17) and Military with ID pay $20. Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $40 with no license required.
