NEWBERRYTOWN, PA- July 31, 2016– The return of Modifieds to Susquehanna Speedway will have to wait one more week.
Heavy overnight rain saturated the grounds of the Newberrytown, Pa., oval by Sunday morning; additionally thunderstorms and showers predicted for the evening forced event promoters to postpone the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP big-block/small-block Modified York County Nationals to the scheduled rain date of Sunday, August 7.
“This is an event we’ve been really looking forward to,” said Short Track Super Series organizer Brett Deyo. “Unfortunately, circumstances did not allow us to run today. We want to put the best foot forward for Susquehanna and our series; having wet grounds and a chance for more rain made an early postponement the only fair decision for the speedway, our fans and racers.”
The Modifieds return to Susquehanna next Sunday for the first time since 2009. A 358-Modified event on June 14, 2009 was won by Meme DeSantis. Previously, a big-block Modified program on June 15, 2006 was topped by Jimmy Horton.
Next Sunday, STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds battle 50 laps for a healthy $5,000 winner’s share, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag.
Touch of Green Landscaping of Boyertown, Pa., will back a Last Chance Qualifier to be run after the STSS Modified consolations, granting one additional starting spot in the main event.
Touch of Green is also sponsoring a $500 Hard Charger Award for the Modified feature.
The York County Nationals is event No. 6 of the seven-race STSS Modified Velocita South Region. Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., leads the standings.
Joining the Modifieds at Susquehanna are the Sportsman racing $1,000 to win for 25 laps.
