STEVE OWINGS TAKES OVER POINTS LEAD WITH VICTORY; Emotional Super Late Model Win for Ross Robinson; Travis Mease Wires Limited Late Model Field

Saturday, October 16 (6:00 p.m.) TURNER AUTOMOTIVE NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS for 410 Sprints and 358 Sprints

Abbottstown, PA (October 9, 2021) – Going into Saturday night’s feature, Steve Owings sat in third place in the championship point standings. With his win Owings now holds a 55 point advantage over Jeff Rohrbaugh with one race left in the season.

Owings lined up fifth for the 20-lap feature and parked his #35 sprint car in victory lane after taking over the lead on lap 16, “This thing is fast. We got going there in the beginning.”

The last time Owings saw victory lane at Lincoln was in 2019, “We were going to put it in the fence or put it here.”

Owings had high praise for the track surface, “The track tonight was really good.” In addition to the track being prepped to perfection, the conditions suited Owings’ driving style, “If anybody knows me I need a little moisture.”

Owings’ third career win at the track came on ARCH (Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown) Night. The top five cars in the feature finish were all ARCH drivers.

Brett Strickler and Matt Findley shared the front row for the drop of the green flag. Findley was looking to score his first win of the season.

Strickler led the field into turn 1 with Findley in second. Cody Fletcher, who went in to the night at the top of the point standings, was battling for third with Owings, Kyle Rohrbaugh and Jayden Wolf. Fletcher took the spot.

Findley was on Strickler’s tail as they battled for the lead.

Owings was running fourth and Wolf was fifth. Kyle Rohrbaugh and Kody Hartlaub battled for sixth. Hartlaub got by both Rohrbaugh and Wolf to move into fifth on lap 4.

The first caution of the race came on lap 5 when Kyle Rohrbaugh sat backwards in turns 3 and 4. Rohrbaugh, who was running in the top 10 when he spun, rejoined the field.

Strickler led Findley, Fletcher, Owings and Hartlaub to the cone for the restart.

Hartlaub got under Owings for fourth and Fletcher drove around Findley for second on the restart. Owings took fourth back from Hartlaub and went to work on Findley for third using the high line.

Owings made the pass going into turn 3 to take third on lap 9.

Strickler continued to lead and used the bottom groove with Fletcher and Owings riding the high line in second and third.

Fletcher was all over Strickler for the lead and tried a slide job on lap 11 but did not make the pass.

Fletcher looked to the outside of Strickler for the lead with lapped traffic right in front of them on lap 14.

Strickler cleared the lapped car as Owings got by Fletcher as he struggled to work through lapped traffic.

The yellow came out again on lap 15 when Riley Emig spun around in turns 1 and 2.

The top five for the restart were Strickler, Owings, Fletcher, Findley and Hartlaub.

Strickler and Owings got a good restart and Owings had a good run coming out of turn 2. Strickler tried to reclaim the lead but Owings had it at the line.

Fletcher was running third and looking to take second from Strickler as the laps wound down. Owings was pulling away from the field when the red flag came out on lap 19. The red was for Fletcher, who was running third when he flipped in turn 4.

Owings paced the field ahead of Strickler, Findley, Jeff Rohrbaugh and Hartlaub for the late race restart.

Owings crossed the line .969 seconds ahead of Strickler. Findley finished third and Jeff Rohrbaugh was fourth. Wolf made a last lap pass by Hartlaub to complete the top five.

Heat race wins for the 358 sprint cars went to Matt Findley, Steve Owings and Brett Wanner.

Emotional Super Late Model Win for Ross Robinson

Ross Robinson

Ross Robinson’s first win at Lincoln Speedway came five weeks after the loss of his father. In an emotional victory lane interview, Robinson shared how much this win meant to him, his family and most importantly his father who was watching from above.

Pole-sitter, Justin Weaver, took the lead when the green flag dropped with Robinson in second.

The caution came out for the leader, Weaver, on lap 1 when he fell off the pace on the back stretch.

Robinson led Knaub, Bryan Bernheisel, Jim Bernheisel and Rick Eckert on the restart.

Eckert got by Jim for fourth and Jason Covert followed to enter the top five.

Robinson was pulling away from the field when he entered lapped traffic on lap 14.

Using the bottom line, Eckert reeled in Bryan to battle for third.

Once again Covert wasn’t far behind and started closing in on Bryan for fourth.

Knaub made up ground in the turns and started closing in on Robinson in the final laps.

Robinson put a lapped car between himself and Knaub and then it was smooth sailing to his first career Lincoln Speedway victory.

Robinson crossed the line .994 seconds ahead of Knaub. Eckert finished third and Covert got by Bryan for fourth. Bryan completed the top five.

Super Late Model heat race wins went to Gene Knaub and Justin Weaver.

Travis Mease Wires Limited Late Model Field

Travis Mease

The start of the Limited Late Model feature saw a red flag right after the green when Fred Harden flipped on the front stretch. Also involved in the melee were Harry Shipe, Brandon Krone and Jim McBee.

The field lined up for a complete restart with Travis Mease leading them into turn 1 and Wes Bonebrake in second.

Before a lap was completed, the yellow flag waved when four cars got together in turns 3 and 4. Doug Legum spun collecting Krone, Chad Earnst and Terry Gingerich.

Once again the field lined up for a complete restart. This time Bonebrake had the lead as they went into turn 1. Bonebrake and Mease were racing wheel to wheel when the caution came out yet again. Krone was sitting in the top of turn 2. Drew Weisser also came to a stop.

The third complete restart saw Mease with the advantage going into turn 1. By the time Mease came out of turn 2 he held a solid advantage over Bonebrake.

With a lap in the books the caution flag waved again. Scott Palmer spun out and collected Ross Leinbach, Drew Weisser and Doug Legum in turn 3.

The top five for the restart were Mease, Bonebrake, Devon Hart, Jason Smith and Chase Billet.

Billet got under Smith as they raced into turn 3. The two were side by side for fourth at the line with Smith holding the slight advantage. Billet took the spot on the next lap coming out of turn 2.

The caution flag waved again on lap 9 when Drew Weisser sat backwards in turn 4.

Mease led Bonebrake, Hart, Billet and Smith on the restart.

Lap 13 saw the yellow flag wave when Shipe spun around in turns 3 and 4.

Billet drove by Hart to take third and went to work on Bonebrake for second.

Drew Weiser’s spin in turn 2 brought out the caution on lap 17.

The restart with three laps to go saw Mease pace the field ahead of Bonebrake, Billet, Hart and Smith.

Mease got to the checkered flag .999 seconds ahead of Bonebrake. Billet crossed the line third and Hart was fourth. Smith completed the top five.
