ACCORD, NY – Elbow’s-up!

It’s the only phrase fitting for the annual invasion by the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco to the tight confines of Accord Speedway. Nestled in the base of the Catskills, Gary and Donna Palmer’s quarter-mile oval annually provides no-holds-barred, in-your-race racing action.

The ‘Battle of the Bullring 7’ rolls into Ulster County this Tuesday night (July 9) featuring the sixth round of the STSS Halmar International North Region for Modifieds and fourth Crate 602 Sportsman North Region event of 2019.

STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds race 50 laps with more than $5,000 up for grabs to the victor, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag. STSS Crate 602 Sportsman take part in a $1,500-to-win, 25-lap main offering $100 to start.

As the season hits overdrive, STSS point battles are heading up.

With five of nine STSS Modified events in the books, Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen sits at the head of the class in the Halmar International North Region with a $12,500 championship looming.

Friesen enters Accord off the strength of two consecutive wins with the series at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., and Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway. Friesen, with 434 points, leads Matt Sheppard (397), Mat Williamson (389), Andy Bachetti (365), Mike Gular (342), Billy Decker (325), Anthony Perrego (318), Mike Mahaney (286), Danny Creeden (377), Craig Hanson (269), Jeremy Smith (245) and Allison Ricci (231) in the series top-12.

Tim Hartman Jr. of Niskayuna, N.Y., like Friesen, took a series victory on his Fonda home turf last Wednesday night. It was Hartman’s second of the season with the STSS. Hartman has accrued 280 points in his quest for the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman North Region crown.

Trailing Hartman in the top-10 are Tommy Collins (211), Bobby Flood and Dustin Jordan (185), Jimmy Johnson (162), Travis Green and Blaine Klinger (160), Jim Housworth (150), Daniel Morgiewicz (149) and Corey Cormier (132).

Four Cylinders complete the Tuesday program with a 20-lap feature.

Gates open Tuesday night at 4 p.m. The drivers’ meeting is planned for 5:45 p.m. Hot laps get underway at 6:15 p.m. Racing starts at 7 p.m.

Adult admission is $25. Seniors (ages 65 and up) pay $23. Kids 11 and under pay $3. There is Outdoor Reserved Seating available at a $2 upgrade. Indoor reserved seating is $35 and can be reserved by calling 845.626.1142.
