Abbottstown, PA (July 23, 2020) – Going into Thursday night’s Gettysburg Clash, Sheldon Haudenschild’s best finish at Lincoln was eighth. Not only was Haudenschild searching for his first career Lincoln victory, he was also vying for his first World of Outlaw win of 2020. Sheldon crossed both items off his check list with his $10,000 Gettysburg Clash victory.
After winning the dash, Haudenschild started on the pole of the 35-lap feature. Jacob Allen lined up second and got under Sheldon going down the backstretch as the two battled for the lead on the first lap. Allen won the race back to the flag stand and led lap 1.
The yellow flag came out on the first lap for Jeff Halligan who got spun around in turn 4. Alan Krimes also spun out as he avoided Halligan’s stopped car.
Allen opted for the inside on the double-file restart. Jacob went to the top in turn 1 as Sheldon tried the bottom. Allen held on to the lead over Haudenschild.
David Gravel was running fifth and wanted Parker Price-Miller’s fourth spot. Gravel slid up the track in front of Price-Miller in turns 3 and 4 to take the spot on lap 4.
As the leaders approached lapped traffic Haudenschild worked the bottom of turns 1 and 2 to reel in Allen.
With Allen and Haudenschild working through heavy lapped traffic Freddie Rahmer caught the leaders. Gravel who was running fourth was also closing in.
Sheldon was using the entire track to try and get by Jacob as Gravel got by Rahmer for third.
Allen and Haudenschild were side by side at the line on lap 15 with Sheldon getting the slight advantage for the lead.
Gravel tried to jump on the opportunity to take second from Allen, but the red flag came out on lap 19. Daryn Pittman was upside down in turn 2. Pittman had been running tenth.
Pittman’s crew were able to make repairs to the #83 in the work are and Pittman rejoined the field.
Haudenschild opted to start on the inside with Allen lined up to his outside. Gravel, Freddie and Logan Schuchart made up the rest of the top five on the restart.
Rahmer, Schuchart and Price-Miller were three wide going into turn 1 for fourth with Schuchart taking the spot from Rahmer. Freddie got fourth back from Logan on the following lap.
Danny Dietrich who started 14th was up to sixth as the front of the field entered lapped traffic on lap 24.
The caution flag flew again on lap 24. This time it was for Chase Dietz who got turned around in turns 3 and 4.
Once again Haudenschild elected to restart on the inside. On the restart a three wide battle for third between Rahmer, Schuchart and Dietrich. After contact in turn 1 the caution came out again as Rahmer shot up to the stop of the track collecting Brock Zearfoss.
With contact on the double-file restart, the field lined up for a single restart behind the leader, Haudenschild.
Schuchart got by Gravel to move into third. That left Gravel to fend off Dietrich as he challenged for the fourth spot.
Haudenschild caught the tail end of the field with five laps to go. The yellow flag flew again on lap 33 when Dietrich hit the wall in turn 4 ending his night.
With less than five laps to go, the field lined up for another single file restart. Haudenschild led Allen, Schuchart, Gravel and Price-Miller.
Carson Macedo got by Price-Miller to enter the top five with one lap to go.
Haudenschild won the Gettysburg Clash by 2.416 seconds over Schuchart who made a last lap pass on Allen for the runner up spot. Allen crossed the line third and Gravel finished fourth. Macedo finished fifth completing a sweep of the top five by the Outlaws.
Heat winners were Freddie Rahmer, Sheldon Haudenschild, Jeff Halligan and Parker Price-Miller.
