MIDDLETOWN, NY – The road to a $15,000 championship kicks off Tuesday, April 7 (rain dates: April 8 and 9) at Orange County Fair Speedway.

The second edition of the Halmar International ‘Hard Clay Open’ presented by United Pump & Tank and East Coast Speed/ECS Auto Inc. is headlined by a 50-lap big-block Modified event offering a hefty $30,000 purse structure. The ‘Hard Clay Open’ kicks off the battle for the Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Hi-Tek Bob Hilbert Sportswear North Region $15,000 championship.

A year ago, Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., won the ‘Hard Clay Open’ in April and parlayed the triumph to the $10,000-plus STSS point title. Again in 2015, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear North Region crown will be decided at the Olum’s Short Track SuperNationals held at I-88 Speedway in Afton, N.Y., Oct. 9-10.

The ‘Hard Clay Open’ is among the season’s most lucrative events for racers, offering a non-top-heavy purse structure throughout the field: $5,000 is guaranteed to the event winner, with $1,000 for 10th and $500 to take the green in the starting field of 28 cars.

A long and growing list of bonus awards is taking shape as well.

The driver advancing the most positions from their scheduled starting position to the finish in the 50-lap ‘Hard Clay Open’ Modified event will receive $500 cash courtesy of Grand Rental Station Tool & Party Rental Station in Middletown, N.Y. Grand Rental Station is online at www.grandrentalmiddletown.com.

The leader at halfway, lap 25, of the 50-lap main will receive $400 cash from Stephen Keeler, proprietor of Rock Fantasy Hard Rock, Metal and Classic Rock Concert Shop & Smoke Shop in Middletown, N.Y. To learn more about Rock Fantasy, visit www.rockfantasy.com.

The driver finishing 21st in the main event will take home a bonus of $210 from McGannon Excavating of Garnerville, N.Y., raising that driver’s earnings to a massive $710! McGannon Excavating is operated by dirt Modified racer Bob McGannon.

The Hard Charger in each of the Modified heat races will take home $50 cash bonuses from Zubi’s Racing owner Dave Zubikowski for their efforts.

‘Lucky 7’ lap money, approaching the $1,000 mark, will be distributed to drivers running inside the top-seven positions during the 50-lap main event. To sponsor a lap for a minimum of $20, contact Brett Deyo at bdmotorsportsmedia@gmail.com.
