GEORGETOWN, DE – The richest dirt Modified race all year in the state of Delaware is fast approaching.

On Tuesday, Sept. 1 (rain date: Sept. 2), Georgetown Speedway hosts the second annual ‘Blast at the Beach’ event co-promoted by dirt Modified driver and businessman Eric Kormann and Brett Deyo of BD Motorsports Media LLC. The big-block/small-block Modifieds of the Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Hi-Tek invade the historic half-mile for the STSS Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. South Region presented by Scotty’s Speed & Diesel championship round.

For 35 laps of feature racing, the ‘Blast at the Beach’ STSS Modified winner will leave with $5,000 plus lap money, bonuses and more. The event pays $1,000 for 10th and, thanks to a slew of marketing partners, green money has been boosted to $500!

Sponsorship support for the ‘Blast at the Beach’ has been received from Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply of Hurlock, Md., Taylor & Messick of Harrington, Del., Shore Water Refining of Dagsboro, Del., and American Portable Mini-Storage of Millsboro, Del.

The complete STSS Modified purse structure is as follows: 1. $5,000; 2. $3,000; 3. $2,000; 4. $1,500; 5. $1,400; 6. $1,150; 7. $1,125; 8. $1,100; 9. $1,050; 10. $1,000; 11. $750; 12. $650; 13. $600; 14. $550; 15. $525; 16. $515; 17. $510; 18. $505; 19-24. $500; Provisionals: $250.

Lap money is already being collected at $20 per lap, which will be distributed amongst the top-seven drivers in the running order during the main. A long list of special awards, bonuses and more will sweeten the pot for STSS Modified drivers competing in the First State.

Following four of five STSS South Region events, David Van Horn Jr. of Harmony, N.J., leads the standings into Georgetown in search of a $7,500 championship. Van Horn won the most recent event at Delaware International Speedway on Aug. 4 and holds an advantage of 23 markers with 325 points.

Ryan Watt of Boyertown, Pa., is second in the standings with 302 points. Completing the top five, respectively, are Rick Laubach of Hellertown, Pa., with 292 points, Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y., at 291 markers and Craig Von Dohren of Oley, Pa., accruing 278 points.

Joining the STSS Modifieds on the Georgetown card are Crate 602 Sportsman in a 25-lap event paying $1,000 to win and $100 to start, Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.
