By Dana Royer/34 Raceway

WEST BURLINGTON, (9-5-2015) – The points season has been completed for the 2015 racing season at 34 Raceway but the racing action continues as it did Saturday night Sept. 5. The Casebine Credit Union Labor Day Weekend Extravaganza saw two racers picking up their first wins of the season at 34 Raceway including Shane Quam (305 sprints), Gladstone, Il., and Andy Baugh (IMRA midgets), Mason City. Also picking up wins were Tommy Bowling, (stock cars), Danville and Austen Becerra, Carthage taking the checkered flag in the 4 Cylinder Nationals feature event.

The track will take the next week off but will return on Saturday, September 19 with the Shottenkirk.com Sprint Invaders Season Championship and STARS Mod Lite Nationals. Also competing will be the IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Stock Cars and 4 Cylinders. Note: The Shipley Ready Mix Quads, Bikes & Side X Sides have been cancelled for Saturday, September 12 but will take on the 34 Raceway course of jumps and turns on Saturday, Sept. 26 to cap off the 2015 racing action at 34 Raceway this year.

Austen Becerra, went back to 4 cylinder racing action Saturday night, after competing in sport mods this season, and picked the 4 Cylinder Nationals win. Becerra took the lead on the first lap and led the full 12 laps. Brandon Reu closed in on the leader late in the race but would have to settle for a second place finish followed by Daniel Campheld, Brent Hartley and Jerrod Nichols to round out the top five.

Shane Quam picked up his first 305 sprint feature win at 34 Raceway this season courtesy of a miscue by leader Manny Rockhold. Rockhold, driving for Roger Grant in the #27 looked to be on his way to the win. But on lap seven, Rockhold would hit the front stretch wall sending him rolling and flipping coming to rest on his side. Rockhold walked away from the accident unharmed but also would have to call it a night. When action resumed the new leader would be Shane Quam. Quam would hold his lead while being chased by Jayson Ditsworth and took the checkered flag in the twenty lap main event for the first time this season. Ditsworth would finish second followed by Nick Guernsey, Pat Moore and newcomer to sprint racing, Brayden Gaylord would round out the top five.

Tom Bowling has come on strong toward the end of the season picking up his fourth IMCA Stock Car feature win in the last six races. Bowling took the lead on the first lap being challenged the entire fifteen laps by Kirk Kinsley, Kinsley would be able to stick his nose along side Bowling a couple times but wouldn’t be able to make the pass as Bowling went on to take the win. Kinsley finished second followed by Dean Kratzer, Dane Fenton and Chad Krogmeier rounding out the top five.

The IMRA Midgets again saw a nice field of cars with fifteen of the seventeen cars entered taking the green flag for their twenty lap feature. Andy Baugh, Mason City, made the long trek to West Burlington and went home a winner, his first win at 34 Raceway. Baugh took the lead from his front row start and would pull away from the field. A fierce battle for second was going on between Brayden Gaylord and Aaron Shuck as they exchanged positions several times throughout the twenty lapper. After working through lap traffic late in the race, Baugh was still able to hold his lead to take the checkered flag by a large margin. Gaylord won the battle for second with Schuck, Dave Anderson and Ken Hanson rounding out the top five.
