NEW EGYPT, NJ- July 3, 2016- On Military Heroes Twin Twenties Night at New Egypt Speedway, Billy Pauch, Jr. and Rick Laubach were the winners in the 358 Modified features. Ryan Godown topped the field in the Burlington County Overhead Door NEWS Sprint main event. Brandon Grosso scored the win in the Crate Sportsman feature.
As the first 20-lap feature for the 358 Modifieds began, Ryan Krachun jumped out to the front with Chad Barney and Chris Grbac next in line. With five circuits completed, Krachun was still in command with Barney, Mike Butler, Grbac and fourteenth place starting Billy Pauch, Jr in tow. At the halfway point, Krachun had built a comfortable lead over Barney with Pauch, Jr. in third.
With only five tours remaining, Krachun was approaching lap traffic when the second caution of the contest occurred for a slowing Steve Davis on the backstretch and Grbac stopping in the fourth corner. The third yellow flag appearance of the contest occurred on the ensuing restart as two simultaneous incidents took place and involved several drivers including the second place running Barney.
With Pauch, Jr. now in the runner-up spot, the green flag waved and Krachun lost two positions as Pauch, Jr. ascended to the front with Dominick Buffalino motoring into second. Pauch, Jr. was pulling from the pack when the final caution took place with only one revolution remaining. On the final restart, Buffalino tried to wrestle the lead from Pauch, Jr. but was repelled as Pauch, Jr. raced to his third victory of the season at New Egypt Speedway.
Buffalino finished in second. Ryan Godown came from fifteenth to score a third place finish. Ryan Krachun crossed the finish line in fourth but was disqualified for being light at the scales. David Van Horn was awarded fourth and fifth went to John McClelland.
With an inversion of the top fourteen finishers in the first feature, polesitter Rick Laubach grabbed the lead and Mike Butler took the runner-up spot as the second 20-lap 358 Modified feature got underway. With a quarter of the contest in the books, the top two of Laubach and Butler remained in order. On lap ten, Willie Osmun worked his way by Butler to gain second just before a multicar tangle took place.
Following two more caution periods and nine laps remaining, Laubach was still in charge with Danny Bouc in second and Osmun in third. As Laubach was pulling away, Bouc and Osmun were in the process of swapping second place several times with Ryan Godown and Billy Pauch, Jr. just behind them. Laubach’s comfortable edge disappeared when the final caution period occurred with only one lap left.
On the final restart, Laubach maintained his advantage and collected his sixteenth career victory at New Egypt Speedway. Second place was seized by Osmun. Bouc barely nosed out Godown to finish in third.
With Godown finishing fourth, Billy Pauch, Jr. took fifth. Chris Grbac, Rick Laubach and PJ Oliver won the 358 Modified heat races.
In the main event for the Burlington County Overhead Door NEWS Sprints, Ryan Godown collected his second checkered flag in the division. Brian Spencer took the lead as the 20-lap event started. Spencer held the lead until Godown took over on the eighth circuit. Godown, who has only three starts in the class, would lead the rest of the way to capture the win.
Spencer wound up in second with Bobby Butler finishing in third. Rich Mellor was fourth with Wayne Weaver finishing in fifth. The Burlington County Overhead Door NEWS Sprints qualifying contests were taken by Ryan Godown and Brian Spencer.
For the second week in a row, Brandon Grosso triumphed in the 20-lap Crate Sportsman feature. Shawn Ratchford set the pace for the opening nine tours before Chuckles Stone advanced to the lead. Grosso, who started the race in fifteenth, diced his way past Stone for the top spot on the eleventh lap. Stone’s strong run resulted in a second place finish.
Third place was taken by Steve Hicks. Jeremy Martino was fourth. Rookie Kyle Kania came from his twentieth place start to finish in fifth. Jeremy Martino, Adam Cox and Chuckles Stone were victorious in the heat races for the Crate Sportsman. The consolation event was captured by Connor King.
