(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) Jason Myers and John Smith stole the show with their victories on Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium. But it wasn’t lost on fans that, without much fanfare, Burt Myers of Walnut Cove got a
step closer to overtaking the points lead.
With two solid fourth-place finishes on Saturday in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series, Myers reduced Tim Brown’s points lead from seven down to just four. “The racer in me wants to be disappointed,” said Myers. “But on a Twin
50s night: two top fives, gaining a handful of points, nothing’s torn up but the front bumper – it’s hard to be too disappointed.”
But the best part of Myers’s night wasn’t the points gain – it was what happened even before the race started. For the first time in the season, Myers was the fastest qualifier.
“The main thing I’m pleased about is where we are qualifying,” said Burt Myers. “We’ve been third and fourth all year, then we got to the second, and then we got the pole this week.”
Qualifying will be of paramount importance for the remainder of the season. None of the races left on the schedule have a random draw for position. And two of them – including the season-ending Double Points 150-lapper – will
start strictly by qualifying order. “Our hard work is paying off, and that’s always gratifying. We’re pointed in the right direction now,” said Myers.
In the Farm Bureau Insurance Sportsman Series, Tommy Neal of Walkertown grabbed a victory on Saturday – earning him one crucial point more than Michael Adams of Yadkinville and Taylor Branch of Lewisville. Branch continues
to lead the way in the points standings, although Neal and Adams, tied for second, are just nine points behind.
Steven Berrier of Germanton finished second on Saturday in the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. It was the fourth second-place finish in a row for Berrier – and while not grabbing a win has to be a disappointment, the
performance has moved Berrier up to tie Derrick Rice of Kernersville for the points lead.
In the McDowell Heating & Air Stadium Stock Series, Brandon Brendle of Winston-Salem finished third to stay on top of the points rankings. But contender Chuck Wall of Lexington finished in second, whittling away at Brendle’s
lead – now only just four points.
There’s two days of racing action on the schedule for this weekend: it’s Racing Electronics Night on Friday and the Strutmasters.com 199 on Saturday.
On Friday, the Modifieds, Stadium Stocks, Legends, Bandoleros, and Classic Modifieds will race – and adult admission is only five dollars! Then on Saturday, it’s the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour competing in the
Strutmasters.com 199, plus racing for the Sportsman and Street Stock Divisions. Admission for this special event is just twelve dollars.
On both days, the gates open at 6:00, and the first race begins at 8:00 PMthis Saturday night. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
