Logan Wagneree Earns Third Win of the Season While Colton Flinner Stays Perfect. Kenny Heffner Earns PA Sprint Series Win

Port Royal Speedway – PORT ROYAL, PA – (May 1, 2022) Logan Wagner held off Dylan Cisney and Lucas Wolfe to pick up his third Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Car victory of the season Saturday night.

The win was worth $4000 and was Wagner’s third triumph of the 2022 racing season. With point leader Anthony Macri in Bristol competing with the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series, the win also propelled ‘The Pilot’ to the top spot in the Weikert’s Livestock track point standings in his drive for five consecutive championships.

“This car is great right now and I just have to thank everyone for getting me here,” said Wagner. “These guys are getting better here and it shows. We’ve just got to keep getting better as a team and keep trying to click off these wins.”

Wolfe and Cisney led the field of 20 cars to the green flag and Wolfe briefly held the top spot exiting turn two before Cisney used a head of steam down the backstretch to lead the opening circuit. Meanwhile Wagner, who started sixth, moved into the final podium position as well in third.

It was fourth-place starter Michael Walter II on the move on lap two as he moved past Wagner for third and the following lap he used the bottom of the track to move past Wolfe for the runner-up spot as well. Wagner also stayed hot on the trail as he got by Wolfe to move back into third.

Cisney built up nearly a 1.5 second advantage after the completion of lap six and two laps later Wagner dispatched of Walter II for the runner-up position and set his sights on the leader. Within one lap he had already cut half a second into the deficit and by lap 15 Cisney hit the tail end of the field and was in lapped traffic.

Wagner cut the deficit in half  to .450 within two laps and he slid under Cisney in turn’s one and two to take the lead coming to the start-finish line one lap later. However, Cisney wasn’t going away without a fight and he slid under Wagner in turn’s one and two to re-take the lead with 11 to go.

Wagner re-took the lead in turn’s one and two on the following lap to lead with 10 to go, but any momentum he was looking to gain was halted on the following circuit when seventh-place driver Justin Whittall got into the outside guardrail exiting turn two to bring out the caution with nine laps remaining. Whittall rejoined the field after a brief time in the pits for repairs.

Wagner took off without contest from Cisney at the return to green-flag action, while the battle for third heated up behind them between Walter II, Wolfe and Blane Heimbach. The three drivers swapped positions a handful of times over the next five laps before Wolfe settled into the final podium position with three laps to go. Heimbach appeared ready to follow suit coming to the flagstand to get the two-to-go sign, but he and Walter II made contact exiting turn four to send Heimbach into the outside frontstretch guardrail. The incident ended Heimbach’s night early and set up a two-lap dash for the checkered flag for Wagner and Cisney.

Wagner took off unchallenged following the restart and went on to pick up the checkered flag with ease. Cisney, Wolfe, Mike Wagner and Walter II filled out the top five. Jeff Halligan, Gerard McIntyre Jr, Rick Lafferty, Whittall and Kody Lehman rounded out the top ten. Logan Wagner earned the $500 Valley Supply Hard Charger Award after starting sixth while 19th-place finisher Kassidy Kreitz earned the J&S Classics $1000 Warrior Award via random draw.

“Dylan Cisney ran a heck of a race and so did the 33 (Mike Walter II),” said Wagner. “We’re gearing up for some more racing going forward and we’ll see what we have at some other places. I’m just ecstatic to be here and the results show how fast we are.”

For Cisney, the runner-up was a solid effort after a frustrating start to his season.

“We’re trying to work on things and just can’t seem to get the car perfect in the slick like we have before.” said Cisney. “We’ve had some bad luck this year and hopefully we’ll be one better spot here soon. We’ll keep trying and I have no doubt we’ll get there soon enough.”

Colton Flinner made it a perfect four for four to start the season in Krill Recycling, LLC Super Late Model competition as he picked up the $3000 victory Saturday night after starting ninth on the grid.

Chad Myers and Kyle Lee lined up on the front row for the A-main and it was Myers getting the early jump on the field. Myers led the first seven laps of the event before fifth-place starter Tylor Emory was able to edge ahead by a nose at the line to lead lap eight. One lap later sixth-place starter Rick Eckert moved into fourth.

Emory hit lapped traffic with 15 laps remaining and Eckert moved into a podium position on the same circuit. One lap later eighth-place starter Gary Stuhler moved into fourth as well. Stuhler moved into third on the following lap, while Flinner cracked the top five for the first time with 12 laps to go.

With 10 laps remaining, Emory held a 5.779 second advantage on the field, but the distance was wiped out with nine to go when John Garvin came to a slow on the frontstretch.

Flinner was the big benefactor of the caution as he was able to jump to second following the restart on the outside of the track. However, the field was again slowed by a caution after a two car incident in turn one with eight laps to go.

Emory held his own on the restart, but Flinner was not to be denied as he inched ahead coming to the line to take the lead with seven laps to go. Stuhler was lurking in third, but his night ended one lap later when he came to a slow on the frontstretch to again bring out the caution.

Eckert moved into the second spot on the restart, but he had nothing for Flinner as he went on the lead the final six circuits to claim the victory. Nick Dickson, Emory and Jared Miley rounded out the top five. Kyle Lee, Myers, Roy Deese Jr., Jason Schmidt and Mike Lupfer completed the top ten.

Directly following the feature, the top ten drivers were inverted to compete in a 10-lap Australian Pursuit race to honor Glenn Stitt. As a result of his tenth-place finish, Lupfer started first with Schmidt in second.

Lupfer jumped out ahead of the field and the first two drivers eliminated were Schmidt and Dickson. Myers was passed next followed by Eckert and Emory. While Lupfer pulled away form the field, tenth-place starter Flinner was putting on a show as he eliminated Miley, Lee and Deese in order.

With one lap remaining, only Flinner and Lupfer remained. While Flinner attempted to catch him on the final circuit, Lupfer cruised home to victory to earn the $1000 that was awaiting the winner. Flinner earned $500 as a result followed by Deese ($400), Lee ($300) and Miley($200). Sixth through tenth all earned an additional $100 for their efforts.

With his victory, combined with a bonus for starting ninth, the $200 George’s Used Cars Hard Charger Award and the Pursuit cash, Flinner brought home a total of $4000 for his efforts.

 “This car is unbelievable, but this was enough work for me tonight with all that passing we had to do,” said Flinner. “I was tired of following everyone around the bottom, but I just felt like the middle was the best place to go and it ended up working out really well.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a streak like this, but it was pretty cool. But It was a good night and I’m happy to see Mike get the pursuit money too.”

For Lupfer, it wasn’t the win he’s been looking for this season, but it was a nice bonus to build momentum on.

“I’ve never done anything like that before, but being out front helped me and I was able to capitalize.” said Lupfer. “This means a lot to win in Glenn’s honor and we appreciate the extra cash. Luck was on our side tonight.”

Kenny Heffner capitalized on a pole position starting spot to bring home the PennsValley MeatMarket PA Sprint Series 305 Sprint Car victory over Ken Duke Jr and Mike Alleman.

While Heffner started from the pole, he had regain the lead from Duke in lapped traffic after Duke charged forward form fourth to take the lead late in the race.

Doug Dodson and Garrett Bard completed the top five while Austin Reed, Domenic Melair, Logan Spahr, Justin Mills and Jimmy White finished up the top ten.
