GEORGETOWN, DE – For the first time in two months, big-block/small-block Modifieds return to the banked half-mile at Georgetown Speedway.
On Friday, May 17, the L&J Sheet Metal Modifieds take the headline of the Deron Rust Memorial, competing for $3,960 to win over the distance of 30 laps. The annual Deron Rust Memorial event is run in memory of Rust, a racer and promoter who was fully dedicated to the success of the Sussex County oval.
Modifieds have not hit the track at Georgetown since the opening Melvin L. Joseph Memorial weekend in mid-March. Stewart Friesen (Short Track Super Series Modified) and Duane Howard (small-block Modified) took the Sunoco checkered flags.
Past Deron Rust Memorial winners under the BD Motorsports Media LLC management of the speedway include Friesen (2016 & ’17) and Ryan Godown (’18).
Joining the L&J Sheet Metal Modifieds on the program are Chesapeake Paving/J.W. Brown Trucking Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,396 to win), Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m. Grandstand gates are unlocked at 5 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 6:40 p.m. and racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
Adult grandstand admission is $20. Seniors (ages 65 and up) and Students (ages 13-17) pay $16. Kids (ages 9-12) pay $10. Children 8 and under are FREE.
Pit admission is $35 for Adults ages 13 and up. Kids (ages 6-12) pay $10. Children 5 and under pay $2.
Award-winning food courtesy of Fat Daddy’s BBQ will be available in both the pit and grandstand areas.
Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
