King of the Can Set for October 17-18 at Penn Can Speedway

KING OF THE CAN WEEKEND SET AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY OCTOBER 17th AND 18TH

Susquehanna, PA… Anticipation is running high for the fifteenth annual Don’s Automotive Mall King of the Can Weekend presented by VP Fuels at Penn Can Speedway. The event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday October 17th and 18th. Co- promoters Al Wilcox and Reed Miller are excited to host this weekend of speed as it will mark their last promotion at the three eighths mile oval. They have previously announced that 2014 would be their seventeenth and last season at the helm of the Susquehanna County oval. The weekend is shaping up to be a must see event with many of the top area race teams indicating they will be in the field for the event. Special races have been schedule for all division in competition on both days of the weekend. The Friday program will be co-promoted by Brett Deyo Motorsports.

The featured event of the weekend will be the modified “King of the Can” feature event scheduled for Friday October 17th. The modifieds will compete in a fifty lap feature event with $5015 going to the winner. The top ten finishing drivers in the VP Fuels sponsored Super Series will be receiving their $200 bonus as an added reward for their series participation. Danny Johnson and Andy Bachetti are currentlt tied for the top spot. Another interesting piece of trivia is that Danny Johnson, Penn Can champion Kevin Hartnett, and Ryan Watt have finished in the top three positions in the last two mid week specials at Penn Can in 2014. They will continue their battle on Friday October 17th.

Joining the modifieds on the Friday night card will be the 602 Grit Crate Sportsman. They will compete in a thirty lap event paying $1000 to win. The top three cars will be guaranteed starting spots in the following night’s Race of Champions Open Sportsman event. The first three Friday finishers will get the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth starting spot if they do not qualify in a better spot in their heat races. Penn Can Speedway has added a special Xcel 600 modified race to the Friday night King of the Can Weekend portion of the program on October 17th. This race will be for the Penn Can Speedway Xcel regulars. Any other Xcel modified is welcome to compete. It will be a draw for position event with any driver winning on both Friday and Saturday in the Xcel division will pick up a $150 bonus.

The Race of Champions Sportsman series will be the headline division Saturday October 18th with a big forty lap feature event. The race will pay the winner a handsome $1250 with $100 to take the green. This forty lap feature should draw a large field of sportsman with many of the Penn Can 602 sportsman expected to join the ROC regulars to contest for the top price.

“We are excited about this ROC Sportsman event,” states Miller. “ROC rules are such that many sportsman teams can come to Penn Can to compete. We look for a great field of cars coming for the race. Last year Penn Can 602 regular won both the 602 event as well as the RoC Open sportsman feature event.”

Joining the ROC Sportsman will be the RoC Street Stock Tour. They will be in competition during the Saturday night event competing in a twenty five lap feature event. The point standings in the RoC Street Stocks are close and this should bring out all the top teams. The CRSA Sprints will be making another appearance at Penn Can. They have been an annual attraction on King of the Can Weekend. This race is part of a three race series between PCS, I-88, and Orange County. A large group of sprint cars is expected. The four cylinders will be running a twenty lap feature paying the winner $400 if eighteen cars enter. Added to the program will be the only appearance of the IMCA modifieds. They will also compete in heats and a twenty lap feature. Completing the Saturday night program will be the annual running of the “Big Dawg Nationals” at Penn Can for the factory stocks.

Gates for the Friday program will open at 5:00 with racing a 7:15. The Saturday event will see the gates opening at 3:00 with the first heat scheduled to take the green at 5:30.
