Jeredd Dennis claims 2nd Annual Big Bop 30 Hobby Stock Feature. Cayden Lawson wins Crate Sportsman, Jason McGregor takes RUSH Late Models, Brett Crawford in Street Stocks, Larry Colton victorious in combined Mini and FWD Feature, and Kayleigh Morseman takes first of season in Youth Warrior Division

(Woodhull, NY) It was Louie’s Gun Shop Night at the Woodhull Raceway as the popular Bath, NY firearms store helped kickoff the first of two post season events at the Steuben County facility.
With the regular season points now just a memory, the Insinger Performance Modifieds ran their final event of the 2022 season and with $2,500 up for grabs it drew a solid twenty car field including many Woodhull regular’s and a slew of invaders.
Josh Nobriga along with Donnie Lawson would lead the field to the opening green flag for the thirty lap feature with cousins Joe and Jake Dgien occupying the second row. For Nobriga it was only his second outing of the year once again piloting a machine out of the Herbie Wright shop in nearby Addison, NY. Nobriga had his hands full throughout the entire distance having to contend with Lawson early on and then his teammate, Brady Fultz in the closing laps. Fultz had a fast race car all night long having had to contend with both the Dgien machines, Brayden Bills and Lawson as he worked into the second slot, but the rear bumper of the Nobriga machine is as close as Fultz could get as the pair of Herbie Wright and Bill Dominic prepared machines would finish one/two at the completion of the thirty lap affair. At the checkered flag Nobriga had a half second advantage over Fultz as he went on to his first win of the year in a Modified after claiming a NAPA 602 Crate Sportsman win earlier in the season on April 30.
Chasing the team cars of Nobriga and Fultz across the line was newly crowned 2022 Track Champion, Joe Dgien who put on a consistent drive in advancing one position from his fourth starting spot to third at the finish while Jake Dgien barely nipped Outlaw Speedway owner, Boss Man Tyler Siri as the pair would complete the top five finishing positions.
In the 2nd Annual Big Bop Billy Joe Birdsall Memorial for the Hobby Stock Division Brandon Birdsall and Paul Dgien would bring the twenty-car field to green for the start of the thirty lap feature event. Having recently backed up his 2021 Hobby Stock Track Championship last week thus making it two in a row, Jeredd Dennis would begin the event outside row four right behind seven time 2022 feature winner, Kaiden Dgien. Dennis would methodically work his way thru the field and go on to pick-up his first ever Big Bop Birdsall Memorial which like last season included a hefty amount of lap money. Dennis win did not come easy as he had to contend with two time “22” feature winner, Mike Spencer and when the checkered flag dropped, Dennis was barely able to hold off hard charging Spencer and Paul Dgien to win the thriller in a blanket finish. Fourth place went to Tracy Dunn who began the season late with AJ Niedermaier making his first start of the season coming from tenth to complete the top five.
In NAPA 602 Crate Sportsman action, third generation pilot, Cayden Lawson would pick-up win three on the season following up his May 21 and July 2, 2022 victories. However, it did not come easy by any means as he had to hold off five time “22” feature winner, Kenny Peoples and like so many other feature events throughout the night this one came down to a win of half a second as Lawson was able to nip Peoples at the line. Third place went to 2022 NAPA Crate Sportsman Track Champion, Isabel Barron as she continues her phenomenal season. Josh Makatura who has seen little action at Woodhull this season rode home for fourth at the finish with Matt Strauss in tow to complete the top five. Other competitors included Bradly Morseman making his debut in Sportsman action with Chris Clemens completing the field.
Brett Crawford would continue his winning ways after recently claiming the Joe Willcox Performance Street Stock Track title. Lining up on the pole for the twenty lap feature, Crawford was able to quickly dispose of outside front row starter, Joe Buck and go on to his sixth win of the year. As he has done countless times this season, two time feature winner Dan Gardner applied pressure to Crawford throughout the entire distance to come home second while August 27 winner, Mick Seeley could complete the top three podium positions. Behind the wheel for the first time in recent memory, Steve Williams would sinch the belts in older brother Mike’s machine, begin the event in fourth and that is right where he would finish as Jim Buck would race within the lead group all event long and complete the top five.
With post season play in effect and on this night the track combined both the Wicked Tee’s Mini Stocks and the Front Wheel Drives. In the thirteen car field littered with numerous invaders along with track regulars, veteran wheelman, Larry Colton came, saw, and conquered as he walked away with the twenty lap event as he held a comfortable three second advantage over second place finisher, Michael Dickerson at the finish. 2022 Warrior Track Champion, Bradly Morseman continues to impress since moving into the regular adult Mini Stock Division by claiming third at the finish followed by invader, Harvey Martin and August 27 winner, John Hand Jr.
Last but certainly not least a pair of young Morseman Family members went at it for the win in the Wicked Tee’s Youth Warrior eight lap feature event and at the completion it was Kayleigh Morseman picking up her first of the year over Courtney Thomas who came home second. Both young ladies had perfect attendance in the class all season as neither missed a show. Congratulations to both gals and all other competitors who competed on this night.
Up next at Woodhull it will be the final night of the year as the Joe Willcox Performance Street Stocks will compete in the Annual Woodhull 100. Thousands in lap money and other contingency money will be up for grabs along with the winner’s check of $2,000. Several other classes are also on the card as Woodhull wraps up the 2022 season.
