Mechanicsburg Pa….Doug Esh has spent the last couple years weighing his passion to race a Sprint Car and retiring from the sport. Some of that angst was the difficulty in finding a ride. The sport has shifted to family operations and even the most talented drivers struggle to find a good seat.

That changed a bit last year when Esh hooked up with Mark Coldren. The two hit it off and even had a few good runs, including a $10,000 victory in the Mitch Smith Memorial at Williams Grove Speedway.

But something was still missing. A piece to the puzzle that Esh needed to be competitive on a weekly basis.

So Esh went to Coldren in the offseason and had a sit-down. The two came out of the meeting knowing they needed a full-time crew chief, and they found what they were looking for in renowned mechanic Dennis Kohler.

“As a driver, I needed to have confidence in what was being done and a guy that I can communicate with,” Esh said. “Someone who understands how I like my race cars and has won some of the biggest races in central Pennsylvania.

“Having Dennis here has me pretty revved up. It’s all we were missing. The cars might not be the prettiest, but Mark has really good stuff and the level of experience Dennis brings can’t be measured.”
