Decker breezes to 35-lap “Prelude” win at Weedsport
Remainder of ‘Last Call at the Port’ schedule washed out
WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – October 23, 2015 – In what turned out to be the final Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified event of the season at Weedsport Speedway Friday night, Billy Decker took charge early and won the $3,500-to-win 35-lap feature that was to have led into the All Ways 150 the next day.
Decker started on the outside pole after the draw that followed time trials for Saturday’s scheduled All Ways 150. Earlier, Gary Tomkins had set fast time, but he departed early with trouble under the hood.
At the halfway mark, Decker had a sizeable lead over Matt Sheppard, Carey Terrance, Pat Ward and Tim Fuller.
With 12 laps to go, Larry Wight began a charge that would take him past Fuller, Ward and Terrance. Wight started the race on the inside of the eighth row.
He reached Sheppard’s quarter-panel with four laps left and the duo raced a few feet apart until Wight got a run off the high side of turn four and put a wheel ahead at the line under white.
Wight cleared Sheppard for the runner-spot. Terrance was fourth followed by Ward, Jimmy Phelps, Fuller, Randy Chrysler, Chris Hile and Ryan Phelps (from 26 th).
