Sicklerville, NJ (March 29, 2015) – Johnny Cornell, the 2014 New Egypt Speedway Sportsman Champion, will be chasing two titles in 2015. On Saturday nights, Cornell will be back at New Egypt Speedway as he attempts to win his second straight Sportsman championship. In addition, the Neshanic Station, NJ based wheelman is planning to enter all five events in the Modified 811 Dig Safe Series on Bridgeport Speedway’s quarter mile track.
Cornell is very enthused about the new series of five Friday night races on the inner oval at Bridgeport Speedway. “I am gung-ho on the series. It seems like a good deal,” exclaimed the twenty-six year old driver. For the Modified 811 Dig Safe Series, Cornell will be using a reliable and winning combination. “During the five races, I will use the same package that I won the championship with last year. The chassis is a 2010 Bicknell and I will use the same Gary Bouc motor. I did get the motor freshened for the series,” commented Cornell about his car. Cornell has a new Bicknell chassis for use at New Egypt Speedway during the year. Although he has never raced on the inner track at Bridgeport Speedway, Cornell expects the racing to be different than the spacious outer oval. “With the quarter mile track, there is a lot more strategy involved especially with the carburation and gearing,” said Cornell.
Andy Walko, who has racing experience in an asphalt Modified, will be tasked with making the key adjustments on the car. Walko joined the team prior to the 2013 season as the crew chief and Cornell has great praise for him. “Andy is the biggest reason that we have been successful the past two seasons,” Cornell declared.
After the opening contest on Friday, April 24, Cornell will be present at the remaining races in the Modified 811 Dig Safe Series that are set for May 15, June 12, July 10 and July 31. After the series, Cornell will enter the $10,000 to win Romp in the Swamp Call Before You Dig Championship on Saturday, September 26. Any type of dirt Modified Stock Car is eligible to compete in the series.  The complete rule book for the series and the Romp in the Swamp Call Before You Dig Championship is available at www.bpspeedway.com under the forms and rules tab.
