10 Questions with Adam LaCicero
by Pete MacDonald

Interview111914aIf I were to tell you what Adam LaCicero does for a living away from the race track it, may surprise you. But when he’s not at the wheel of his #27 Troyer Asphalt Modified, Adam is a Lavalette, NJ Police Officer. When Hurricane Sandy came through in October of 2012, Adam worked countless hours around the clock assuring many people’s safety. His brother Christian’s Modified actually ended up with flood damage due to the storm.

Adam who started his career out in the early 2000’s driving a Street Stock owned by his father Wally, has evolved into a weekly force to be reckoned with at Wall Stadium in the Modified division. I recently had a chance to spend a little while on the phone with Adam and ask him a couple questions while on a cruise with his family in the Bahamas.

PM: If someone gave you an unlimited budget to build a race track, what would it be? AL: Asphalt 4/10 mile with 18 degrees of banking. Something like a little wider and flatter Wall Stadium near the beach, that way you have no noise or environmental issues.

PM: Where do you want your career to go? AL: I’m kind of over running every week. I’m looking to run some tour stuff whether it’s with the KOMA, Whelen Modified, or the VMRS series on a limited schedule. I’m just kind of overwhelmed now with the kids. I also would love to at least try racing on dirt one time before I retire.

PM: In your career, what would be the best experience you’ve ever had due to racing? AL: Meeting all the friends and generous people that I never would have outside of racing and obviously winning the races that I have is memorable.

PM: What type of surface do you prefer? Old and worn out or new and fast? AL: For me it’s a newer surface. For the sake of the fans and show, I say old.

PM: If you could win one race you haven’t won yet, what would it be? AL: I always wanted to win a one-hundred lap race at Wall Stadium. Whether its Turkey Derby or the Garden State Classic, any of them.

PM: What do you do away from the race track besides race? AL: I like to fish on my boat, spend time with kids and wife. I’m actually on a cruise in the Bahamas as I’m talking to you.

PM: If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be? AL: That’s a really good question. Going out on a limb I would have to say Ronald Reagan. I read a book last week about his presidency and he definitely had the right idea. We could use more of that these days.

PM: If you could race any race car in history, what would it be? AL: Any asphalt modified from the 70’s with a real big block. That had to be out of control. Richard Petty’s super bird comes to mind as well.

PM: $10,000 to win, your running 2nd. Do you crash the guy to win? AL: Junior Miller once said that he would crash his grandmother in a wheel chair for $5,000. So yeah absolutely.

PM: Last question. If you could change anything about the sport of short track racing what would you change about it? AL: Get rid of the Internet message boards and the absurd amount of money it takes to run good these days. There are guys that have no idea what a wrench is or how to use it that have the best equipment out there.

With the 41st annual Turkey Derby just over a week away, Adam has to be one of the contenders for the win in the Wall/SK Modified portion of the event. Hopefully he knocks off that win that he wants oh so badly. And if you ever plan on getting in a police chase through Lavalette, NJ…don’t. You’ll probably end up losing.
