Brewerton%205-20-16J%20021BREWERTON, NY- May 21, 2016- Lightning stuck the Brewerton Speedway victory lane Friday night when Larry Wight parked his Gypsum Express/Tracey Road Equipment/NAPA Auto Parts/Penske Racing Shocks/LJL Kevlar Racing Engines/No.99L/Teo in victory lane in the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds.

In the 35 lap feature Wight took the lead on lap 3 and never looked back. The win was anything but easy as Wight had to hold off challenges from Chuck Bower and Chad Phelps until the halfway point, while over the second half of the race Wight was able to pull away to the popular win.

Other winners on Ferris Mowers night were Tony Finch II (SUNY Canton Sportsman) Joe Isabell (Firehouse Subs Mod Lites) Ray Bechler (JB Logging & Firewood 4-CYL).

In a wild start to the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified 35 lap feature at the front of the field Mike Bowman and Andrew Ferguson would swap the lead in the open two laps with Larry Wight right there as you could’ve thrown a blanket over the top three before a quick yellow would wave, slowing the action. On the restart Wight would dig deep on the bottom to be shown the new leader.

The caution would be thrown on lap 5 when Jimmy Phelps and Max McLaughlin would make contact that sent Phelps to the pits to  make repairs. Phelps, the opening night winner, would return but laps down.

Brewerton%205-20-16J%20012With 10 laps complete Wight still led as Chuck Bower and Chad Phelps hung right with the leader within striking distance. Behind the the top three Ryan Bartlett, Tom Sears Jr. and Ferguson waged their battle for third through sixth.

A quick caution period came on lap 15 slowing the field with Wight still leading.  Bower, Phelps, Bartlett and Tom Sears showed second through fifth on the scoring tower. The entire field except Jimmy Phelps were still on the lead lap.

At the halfway point, lap 18, Wight still showed the way using the bottom of the speedway. Bower and Phelps were still running a strong race as Wight was having trouble shaking them and getting away.

On lap 19 Vinnie Vitale slowed, bringing out the caution but he would return after a quick trip to the pits.

With 10 laps to go Wight really flexed the muscle in his Teo Pro Car still running the low groove bolting out to a straightaway lead. Chad Phelps, Bower, Ryan Phelps showing late race speed and Tim Sears Jr. raced for second through fifth.

Over the remaining laps and no yellows to bunch up the field, there was no stopping Larry Wight as he cruised under the checkers by four seconds over second place. Ryan Phelps came home with an impressive second followed by Chad Phelps, Tom Sears Jr. and Tim Sears Jr. to round out the top five.

featuresAAA0013For the second week in a row over thirty SUNY Canton Sportsman would sign in the pits. It would take four heats and two consolations to set the 26 car starting field.

After an unusual Did Not Start on opening night Tony Finch II would take advantage of a front row starting spot to take the lead on the opening lap of the 25 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature.

With 10 laps complete Finch held a few car length advantage lead over Brent Joy. Behind Finch and Joy there was a battle royal going on as Mike Stanton Jr., Billy Clark Jr., Beth Bellinger, Corey Barker and Ron Davis III used every inch of the racing surface racing for third through seventh.

When the race reached the 10 laps-to-go point it was still Finch and Joy showing the way in the first two spots. Stanton, Bellinger, Clark, Davis and Barker were still in a slug-fest behind the the top two.

featuresAAA0042With no cautions the rest of the way there was no slowing down Finch as he was the first under starter Dave Farney’s checkers. Beth Bellinger made a late charge to finish second followed by Brent Joy, Ron Davis III and Corey Barker to round out the top five.

In the 20 lap Firehouse Subs Mod Lite feature Joe Isabell would lead the opening 15 laps when a yellow would wave. On the restart Jim Bogett who was challenging Isabell the whole race would see the door open on the bottom  speedway taking the lead. On lap 17 the yellow would wave again allowing Isabell to turn the tables on Bogett when he drifted up the track in turn two as Isabell bolted back to the lead and narrow win over Bogett. Zack Babcock was right waiting for any mistake by the top two as he finished third. Opening night winner Jeff Sykes and Justin Williams finished fourth and fifth.

Ray Bechler made it two feature wins in a row in the JB Logging & Firewood Four Cylinders. In the 15 lap feature Bechler would take the lead from Colby Herzog and would outrun Tim Dunn to the finish. Colby Herzog, Chris Bonoffski and Mike Sherbeck would finish third through fifth.
