Two Tracks, One Price: Bridgeport Speedway April 17 ‘South Jersey Shootout’ Combines Excitement Of Five-Eighths-Mile & Quarter-Mile Tracks; Short Track Super Series Invades With More Than $25,000 On The Line

BRIDGEPORT, NJ- April 8, 2016- Two tracks, one price. On Sunday, April 17 in Bridgeport, New Jersey race fans will be treated to the high-speed thrill of Modifieds on the fast five-eighths-mile Bridgeport Speedway and tight confines of XCel 600 Modifieds battling on the inner quarter-mile oval, recently renamed Spirit Auto Center Speedway.
The second annual ‘South Jersey Shootout’ will have something for everyone.
Headlining the Sunday program are the big-block/small-block Modifieds of the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP, taking part in the second event of the Velocita South Region with a point fund of more than $25,000 on the line for seven races.
The STSS South Region got underway in mid-March at the renovated Georgetown (Del.) Speedway. Montgomery, N.Y., star Anthony Perrego drove the Gary Mann-owned New York Truck Parts No. 55 to victory over a stellar 43-car field in the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial. Perrego led David Van Horn Jr., Andy Bachetti, Ryan Godown and Jordan Watson across the line.
At the Georgetown STSS opener, four states – New York (Perrego), Massachusetts (Bachetti), New Jersey (Van Horn and Godown) and Delaware (Watson) – were represented among the top-five finishers. That same diversity is expected when the gates swing open to the spacious Bridgeport oval on the 17th of April.
STSS Modified competitors will battle for a huge payout at Bridgeport, with $5,000 going to the race winner of the 40-lap main, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag. Lap money, contingency awards and other bonuses will sweeten the pot.
Doug Borger’s XCel 600 Modifieds will battle for a $1,000 payday on the inner quarter-mile oval. Last year, the XCel 600 Mods made their Bridgeport debut at the ‘South Jersey Shootout’ and were a popular attraction: so well received, in fact, that the division was invited back to the facility on more than one occasion.
Also on the ‘South Jersey Shootout’ program: Bridgeport Sportsman (track rules) and Outlaw Stocks.
Admission for the grandstands is $25 for Adults (ages 16 and up), $10 (Students 10-15) and Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35, with no license required.

A ‘South Jersey Shootout’ rain date is in place for Sunday, April 24.
Last April, in the inaugural ‘South Jersey Shootout’ it was Hellertown, Pa., driver Rick Laubach guiding the No. 7 big-block to victory over David Van Horn Jr., Craig Von Dohren, a rim-riding Ryan Watt and Jack Swain.
