267ACCORD, NY- August 6, 2016- On a hazy but warm summer day in August, the Accord Speedway swung back into action on Friday evening. With temperatures in the low 80’s and a warm gentle breeze blowing across the speedway grounds, Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer reeled off an outstanding racing card for the good crowd on hand that witnessed the excellent racing action. The evening of speed was sponsored by the good folks at Kingston Nissan and their representatives were on hand to take part in the victory ceremonies at the Lucas Oil Products victory lane. For information regarding Kingston Nissan, go to their extensive website at: www.kingstonnissan.net

A&M Hardware was the checkered flag bonus sponsor. The evening of events was completed by 11PM and it marked the first event for Accord with a new 7:30 starting time.

The final outcome of the great evening of racing action found “The Montgomery Missile” Anthony Perrego continuing his excellent work at the speedway as he steered his New York Truck Parts sponsored hot rod to his second Accord Speedway win of the season in the United Pump & Tank Modified headliner. Phil Goetchius after weeks of trying, finally nailed down his first win of the season in the Healey Brothers Group Sportsman finale.  “The Layton Laser” Brody Adamsky was spot on as he recorded his fifth win of the season in the Ruge’s Performance NEWS Sprint Car feature event.  Veteran campaigner Steve Williams added his second win of the season to his total as he raced to victory in the Arkel Motors Pure Stock ranks.  “The Junior Rock” Matt Shultz captured his first win of the season in the Ruge’s GM Parts Center Rookie Sportsman main event as he dominated the action in a wire to wire run. Michael Corbin earned his first career win at the speedway in the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshot finale with a solid run to victory lane. The Empire Lightning Sprints returned to action at the speedway and former track champion Clint Roehrs flashed his championship form in a great drive to victory.

269Richie Eurich used a front row start to kick off the United Pump and Tank Modified event and led for the first six laps of the 30-lap main event.   A restart closed the field in and on the restart Joe Judge found the top of the speedway to be the fast way forward and grabbed the lead out of turn two. Judge would lead until lap 12 until another caution slowed the event. On the restart Eurich kicked up his heels once again and would lead the field but was under siege from a quadrant of racers moving their way forward including Judge, Anthony Perrego, Mike Ricci and Jesse Marks.  A couple of cautions would bring the field close together but Eurich remained in command of the point.

A restart on lap-20 put Perrego nose to tail with Eurich and when the green appeared Perrego began to make his run for the roses. Tailing Eurich closely, he tried the top and the bottom of the speedway channels and on lap-22 found the baseline of the speedway to his liking and he drove under Eurich, pulled even on the backstretch and won the top spot as the pair raced into turn three.  Perrego would race to his second win of the season with Eurich in for a hard fought runner-up slot. Joe Judge stayed in the hunt all night long for a nice third place run and current point leader Mike Ricci was fourth and steady Jesse Marks completed the top five. The second five were Ed Dachenhausen, Brad Rothaupt, Mark Pullen, Ken Ferrier and the returning Dave Hinsch.

034The Healey Brothers Group Sportsman event proved to be a great race as Phil Goetchius found the fast line at the top of the raceway and powered into the lead. Goetchius opened up a big lead on the field but some skirmishes would slow the action down on a few occasions. A trio of racers Collin DuBois, Dana Carey and Connor Otten kept pace with Goetchius for a time but in long stretches Goetchius was in charge of the event. Just past the halfway point, Kevin Ward and Jimmy Wells moved into contention and would move into the second and third place with five laps to go. Goetchius would not be denied on this night as after many weeks of trying he finally nabbed his first 2016 win at Accord Speedway. Ward was second with Wells third. Collin DuBois enjoyed a solid outing with a fourth place run and Dana Carey completed the top five in his best run of the season. Following the top five were Milton Mann, Dave Demorest, Rafael Carson, Winter Mead and Leo Fotopolous,

The Ruge’s GM Parts Rookie Sportsman feature attraction found Matt Shultz with the hot hand as he powered into the lead at the drop of the green flag and would open up some distance on the field and even though a couple of restarts were needed, Shultz raced away to his first win of the season at Accord and first ever in a full size race car. Shultz captured seven wins last year while competing in the All Star Slingshots. Chris Van Duser had a great run for second with Stan Vishinski taking third. Jason Feinberg, newcomer Brad Horton, Jim Kraus, newcomer Derrick Cormier, Kenny Ryder and AJ Williams would complete the rest of the field.

Steve Williams grabbed the early lead in the Arkel Motors Pure Stock main event and that proved to be the winning pass as he led throughout the event despite some heavy pressure coming in the form of Bob Sleight and Travis Brockner. Williams was cool as a snow cone as he held back his opponents and raced to his second win of the season in the 15-lap encounter. Sleight was second with Brockner third  and a good battled developed for fourth with Ray Tarantino getting the spot over a returning Gary Ronk. Newcomer Rob Taylor, Curt Ayers, Harry Bachman and James Goetchius completed the field.

Brody Adamsky grabbed the lead at the start of the Ruge’s Performance Center NEWS Sprint Car feature. The move made the rest of the event purely academic as Adamsky raced away from the field to gather in his fifth win of the season. Andrew Davis enjoyed a solid run in his return to action with a runner-up finish and point leader Jesse James Bartleson was third.

Michael Corbin started from the outside pole position and quickly raced in to the lead at the start of the event. Corbin opened up a big lead late in the race and coasted to his first ever Accord Speedway win. Hunter Lapp was second with Jake Mason third, John Kendall fourth, Justin Sleight fifth and Ashton Dewitt sixth.

Shilo Boyce grabbled the lead at the start of the Empire Lightning Sprint 20-lap feature run. Boyce kept the lead as he repelled the advances of Ralph Utter and Jesse Pruchnick. Clint Roehrs started from sixth place and began to work the baseline to perfection as he raced into the runner-up slot by lap ten. Roehrs kept nipping away at Boyce and finally was able to slip past for the lead on lap-13. Roehrs would go on to capture the win with Boyce solid in the runner-up status. Ralph Utter was third in his first race in three years and Jon Moore was fourth with Jesse Pruchnick nailing down fifth place. Jerry Sehn, Canadian Charles Belanger, Zach Bennett, Matt Brown, Nick DeNyse, Lou Torres and Rick Stone rounded out the field.

New entries were abundant at the speedway as Greg McCloskey steered the second Creeden racer. Dave Hinsch returned to action  along with Richard Smith and Patrick Murphy made his maiden debut in the Modified ranks with his P3. Zach Mead was on hand with his Northeast Wingless Sprint Car in his debut and ran strong until problems under the bonnet sidelined his evening. Rob Taylor and Shawn Johannssen were newcomers for the Pure Stock division. New Sportsman cars included Mike Murphy, Raphael Carson, Tommy Vighe, Winter Mead and Mike Senecal.

Happy engagement wishes go out to Steve Schrader and his girlfriend from the Tyler racing Team and Accord Speedway.

Promoter Gary Palmer had the speedway in great racing form as the speedway again offered up to four and possibly five distinct racing channels to the drivers to create some excellent side by side battles throughout the evening.

Best wishes go out to all of the Accord Speedway Junior Slingshot and All Star Slingshot drivers who will be taking part in the Slingshot Speedweeks racing at the various speedways on the tour schedule. The racing began this evening at Linda’s Speedway and will end with next Saturday’s racing at the Hamlin Speedway.
