052GEORGETOWN, DE- March 4, 2016-  Billy Pauch Jr. has already achieved much in his young career, but he is looking to add Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP glory to his résumé.

“We are going to chase the (STSS) South Region title for a couple of different owners,” Pauch indicated. “Hopefully we will be more prepared this time.”

Pauch noted that he and his team “didn’t expect much” heading into Velocita South Region competition last season, but still arrived at ‘The Blast at the Beach’ at Georgetown Speedway with a chance to win the championship.

“We needed some things to go our way, but had a pretty good car,” Pauch remembered. “We were in the top-five before I saw the temperature pegged at 260, and had to pull off.”

156Pauch’s quest for redemption will begin on March 12 at the Georgetown Speedway for the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial, a 49-lap big-block/small-block Modified event paying $4,900-plus to win, $1,000 for 10th and $490 to take the green flag. The Frenchtown, N.J. driver, though, has circled two events of the seven-race series on his calendar: the Big Diamond (Pa.) and New Egypt (N.J.) speedways.

“I am really looking forward to the races at Big Diamond and New Egypt,” he said. “We were good at both tracks, but just not good enough. An open small block was the way to go at Diamond last year, but we had a big block.

“It definitely helps if you run there every week,” Pauch said when talking of the advantage of racing at your home track. “Knowing the track makes a huge difference.”

Pauch, the 2015 champion in the Big Diamond small-block Modified ranks, mentioned that the team has added an open small block for this season, and will be running races aboard machines owned by Rick Holsten, John Packenham, Breitenstein Motorsports, and himself.

022“I’m excited. Brett (Deyo) has created a nice niche with these South races,” he said. “It pays really well, and it is always nice to see so many people in the stands.”

The journey for Pauch and his STSS South counterparts begins on Saturday, March 12 at Georgetown, Del.

Joining the STSS Modifieds on the March 12 card: Crate 602 Sportsman, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks.
