WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ After winning his 25-lap main on September 3 O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stock point leader and defending champion Joe Mongeau claimed that he wouldn’t even think about a second straight crown until after he got through Saturday night’s (Sept. 10) Triple 25 lap main events at Wall Stadium Speedway. After posting three top three finishes on Saturday night, the first of which was another main event win in front of a large crowd on “Pack The Track Night,” the Brick resident can now focus a little more attention on the crown.

Mongeau battled his way to the front in the first of three 25-lappers before grabbing his fourth win of the campaign. Howell’s Richie Byrne, Joey Helberg of Union, Manchester’s Scott Riggleman and Scott Maher of Brick wrapped up the top five.

Byrne came on strong from a mid pack starting slot in the second Factory Stock 25-lapper taking his second win of the season. Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg was the big challenger in this one before finishing second with Mongeau, Riggleman and Mike Montano completing the top five.

The third Factory Stock 25 lap main event was also a thriller as Ron Booth of Eatontown won his second main event of the campaign fighting off late race challenges from Mongeau who finished second. Byrne, Riggleman and Helberg completed the top five finishers in this Factory Stock nightcap.

1-walla91016-568“This was a real big night for us and I’m a little more relaxed now,” Mongeau said after his win, a second and a third place finish. “We ran real well and so did Richie and Ron who are kind of my teammates. The season is far from over now and there are a lot of good racers in the Factory Stocks.

“Still, this night with three feature races was a big night to get through.”

Byrne enjoyed a good night overall as he also won a special 15-lap “Dash For Cash” for the top Factory Stock finishers in the three features. Mongeau, Riggleman, Helberg, Stanzione and Booth followed him across the finish line.

Young Blake Barney enjoyed a large round of applause from the big crowd after posting his first ever win on the third mile paved oval in the companion 30-lapper for the Snap On Sportsman cars during this his rookie season. The former Champ Kart racer, who enjoyed great success on the fifth mile “inner oval” during his time in the Sunday Series, was in contention from the start. Barney’s winning move came early when he avoided a multi-car restart crash that occurred when Ricky Collins of Willow Grove, Pa. and Robby Walton of Tuckerton tangled. Collins and fellow title contender Kevin Davison of Howell, who was also involved, were able to make repairs and return to the race. Title contender Dom Fattarusso of Brick, also involved, was not able to make repairs and was scored in 18th.

At the end of the Sportsman race Jarret DiGiantomasso chased Barney across the finish line. Howell’s Eric Lane was third, Collins recovered for fourth and Tyler Truex of Mayetta was fifth. Former champ Davison 1-wallb91016-086retained a slim point lead over Collins by finishing sixth after the early crash.

Brian Osborn of Howell won his second 25-lap main event in his rookie season for the Surf Side Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks. Mike Lavery of Orangeburg, N.Y. battled Osborn for the lead early before Lavery left the race because of fluid leaking from his car on the speedway. Brick’s Ronnie Mullen settled for second in this one followed by point leader Todd Pilla of Beachwood. Fred Cannock of Port Monmouth and Jackson’s Darren Burdge completed the top five.

Kevin Nowak of Medford, N.Y. came from deep in the field to cross the finish line first in the 25-lap main for the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars. Vinny Troia of Browns Mills, Nick Van Wickle of Edgewater Park and Howell’s Robert French were second through fourth. Louie Keraitis of Toms River retained his championship point lead by finishing fifth. As of Sunday the finish remains unofficial as officials wait for a rules clarification from INEX, the sanctioning body of Legend Cars racing.

Mike Harrigan won the championship Demolition Derby and fans enjoyed the grandstand midway games and festivities of “Carnival Night.”

Stock car racing continues this Saturday night (Sept. 17) with “Ladies’ Night” action when all ladies will be admitted to the grandstand for a discounted ticket price of just $10. On the track the Downs Ford Modifieds will return for a 40-lapper while the Legend Cars will battle in three 25-lap features. Also on the agenda will be the Sportsman cars in a 30-lapper and the Factory Stocks and the Elite Maintenance Limited Late Models both in 25-lappers on the third mile paved oval. The Three Quarter Midgets and the Senior Champ Karts will compete on the “inner oval.” Grandstand seating opens at 5:00 p.m., qualifying starts at 5:30 p.m. and feature racing begins at 7:00 p.m.
