BREWERTON, NY – Larry Wight out of Phoenix, NY used a power move on the top groove of the speedway to get by race leader Jimmy Phelps with 3-laps to go in the 35-lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature. Once out-front Wight drove away for his third straight win at the Brewerton Speedway Friday night.

Other winners on Xtreme Auto Recovery, Ingles Performance night were, Nick Krause and Will Shields (SUNY Canton DIRTcar Sportsman) Justin Williams (STARS Mod Lites) Ray Bechler (JB Logging & Firewood 4-Cylinders). Will Shields won the Northern Welding & Fabrication Sportsman dash for cash.

Tim Kerr would lead the opening couple laps of the 35-lap Modified feature until Tom Sears Jr. would grab the top spot after a quick caution and restart.

With 10-laps complete Sears still led, but he had company with Jimmy Phelps who was now putting pressure on him with Max McLaughlin right there in third waiting for any mistake by the top-two. Larry Wight and Gary Tomkins were slugging it out for fourth and fifth.

Sears opened a slim six car length advantage with 15-laps showing on the scoring tower. Phelps, Tomkins, Wight and McLaughlin were using every inch of the speedway battling for second through fifth.

On lap-20 Sears was still running the top of the speedway with Phelps digging hard on the bottom looking for a way by Sears. Tomkins and Wight were running side-by-side just a few car lengths behind the top-two and still in solid contention for the win.

Finally, on lap-26 after hounding Sears, Phelps found the power he needed to drive into the lead.

On lap-27 the final yellow flag would wave, slowing the intense battles for positions all over the speedway. The restart would see Phelps, Sears, Tomkins, Wight and Tim Sears Jr. at the front of the field for a mad dash to the checkers.

Wight, who started 13th, would go to the top of the speedway driving into second with 5-laps to go and then took off after Phelps.

After running down Phelps, Wight would blast into the lead taking the top-spot by a half-a-car length on lap-32. Once out front there was no stopping Wight as he put his FX Caprara Chevy/Tracey Road Equipment/NAPA/Penske Racing Shocks/LJL Kevlar Racing Engines/Bicknell/No.99L in victory lane for the third straight race at the ‘D-Shaped Dirt Demon.’ Jimmy Phelps, Tim Sears Jr., Tom Sears Jr. and Max McLaughlin came home second through fifth.

Forty-Five SUNY Canton Sportsman signed in the pits setting up two 25-lap features.

In the first feature Joe Abbass would set the early pace out front as the racing was two and three wide behind him at the drop of the green.

On lap-10 JJ Courcy would take over the top spot with Nick Krause, Abbass, Joe Kline and Chris Cunningham showing in the top-five.

On lap-12 using the top of the speedway Krause would drive by Courcy to be scored the new leader.

On lap-14 and still racing Krause for the lead, Courcy would clip an implement tire in turn four, collapsing his front end and bringing out the caution.

With Krause cruising out front the final caution would come out with 5-laps to go to give the field one last shot at Krause. Over the final laps Zach Sobotka could stay with Krause but Krause was not to be denied as he was under the checkers 1.107 seconds ahead of Sobotka. Matt Janczuk, Ricky Yelle and Chris Cunningham finished third through fifth.

In the second 25-lap Sportsman feature Stephen Denton would lead the opening 2-laps before Brent Joy would drive into the lead.

With 10-laps showing on the scoring tower Joy was still in control of the race with Will Shields racing alone in second trying to run Joy down. Billy Clark Jr., Denton and Kevin Root raced for third through fifth.

Shields, who was running the bottom, chased down Joy and passed him with 10-laps to go as the final laps clicked off the lap counter.

The yellow flag would wave with 5-laps remaining erasing the lead Shields built up and gave the field one last shot at the win. When the green came back out nobody seriously challenged Shields as he went on to the victory. Billy Clark Jr., Kevin Root, Amy Holland and Brent Joy finished second through fifth.

A special $500 Sportsman 8-lap Dash-for-Cash was put up by Northern Welding & Fabrication for the top-four finishers in each Sportsman feature. In the race Will Shields used the same bottom groove of the speedway he used for his feature win to make the winning pass on lap-3 getting by Zach Sobotka. Kevin Root, Amy Holland, Zach Sobotka and Matt Janczuk finished second through fifth.

In the 20-lap STARS Mod Lite feature Dave Brown and Mike Mullen would lead early laps before Justin Williams took the lead. Once out-front Williams was the class of the field as he dominated the rest of the way for his third straight win. Mike Mullen, Joe Garafolo, Tom Perkins and Dave Brown came home second through fifth.

Chuck Powelczyk took the lead on lap-3 of the 15-lap JB Logging & Firewood 4-Cylinder feature and was dominating at the front of the field until a late caution set up a green, white, checker finish. Ray Bechler would take advantage of the restart as he was able to get by Powelczyk in turns three and four coming down to the checkers for his second win of the year. David DeNova, Adam Gates and Donnie Rider finished third through fifth.
