URC Returns to Action with a Two Race Weekend

After 2 weekends off, the United Racing Club will return to action with a double header of challenge races being held at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night, May 2nd, and Susquehanna Speedway on Sunday night, May 3rd. Two weeks ago, on April 12th, the United Racing Club held its first race of 2015 at the big 5/8th mile Bridgeport Speedway. Chuck Hebing and Curt Michael lead the field of 20 sprints to the green flag. The night was all green as the Bill Gallagher owned 5G found themselves in victory lane for what was Curt Michael’s 50th victory in URC.
This Saturday night, the United Racing Club will head to Selinsgrove Speedway for the 10th annual running of the Jack Gunn Memorial Challenge for the 358/360 sprint cars. The winner’s share is a cool $3,500 with $225 to take the green. The Gunn Memorial will feature a 30-lap race between the traveling URC 360 sprint cars, and the track’s weekly Mach 1 Chassis 358-360 sprint cars.
The tribute race is run each year to honor the memory of the late race track promoter Jack Gunn, who operated Selinsgrove, Williams Grove, Penn National, and Hagerstown Speedways during his career and brought mid-state dirt track racing to national prominence in the 1970’s. Gunn was inducted posthumously into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame (Knoxville, Iowa) in 1990.
The past winners list is like reading a who’s who of 360 racing. In 2006, Blaine Heimbach took the victory as well as in 2008 and 2012. Other previous winners include Calaman (2007); Trevor Lewis of Upper Black Eddy (2009, 2010); Shane Stewart of Indianapolis, Ind. (2011); JJ Grasso of Pedricktown, N.J. (2013); and defending winner, Aaron Ott of East Berlin have also won the Gunn Memorial as a challenge event.
Track gates open at 5pm, show starts at 7pm.
On Sunday May 3rd, the United Racing Club will return to the ½ mile clay oval of Susquehanna Speedway for their first of 4 nights in 2015. Hoping to build on the success of last year’s 358/360 challenge events, the Sunday Night Sprint Car Special will feature the second consecutive night of challenge racing for the URC Sprints.
On Sunday, the pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Track prep laps begin at 6:30 p.m., with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m., followed by consolation races and feature events.
