Up Next: The 25th Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank
KNOXVILLE, Iowa (August 2, 2015) The kick off to the Southern Iowa Sprint Week is this Thursday night with the opening of the Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank. Coming out of the “Road to Knoxville” at the I-80 Speedway, several teams with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network took part in this past Saturday’s weekly lineup at the Knoxville Raceway.
If Saturday’s A-Feature is any indication of things to come, bring oxygen. In a race that saw five lead changes, and more plot twists than daytime T.V. the end results was Calvin Landis beating out Josh Baughman to the stripe by 0.065 seconds, after the pair split the No. 77x of Wayne Johnson who rolled helplessly with a shredded left rear tire through the final turns after charging to the lead from 12th.
Baughman, a graduate of the ASCS Lone Star Region, spent much of the race battling with Tony Bruce, Jr. While the Kansas native has taken a partial schedule in 2015, his time out of the seat was not apparent as the No. 18 crossed third.
South Dakota’s Justin Henderson, who went on to win the 410cid division on Saturday, crossed fourth with Johnny Herrera coming from 14th to complete the top five. When all was said and done, Wayne Johnson was still able to limp to the line for an eighth place finish.
While several National and Regional drivers enjoyed success in Saturday’s dress rehearsal for the 360 Nationals, Saturday also provided a chance for drivers to work out the bugs. Among those was Jeff Swindell who exited the A-Feature early.
Brodix Rookie of the Year contenders, Kris Miller and Jordan Weaver each had engine woes, with Weaver’s bullet going up in smoke. Trying to find more speed, Blake Hahn loaded in one piece, and will look of the No. 52 for more ways to move forward. Current ASCS National point’s leader, Aaron Reutzel, also suffered mechanical problems on Saturday night.
A race where you first two laps can set the tone for your entire weekend, the format for the 25th Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank will see drivers split into separate qualifying nights. With 98 drivers on the docket, and more on the way, the breakdown for nightly qualifiers is as follows:

From the Knoxville Raceway website, the format is as follows:
The 360 Nationals encompasses a three-day format. With points meaning everything, and every wheel turned on the track meaning points, there is no time for a break.
Thursday and Friday
Order of Events: Hot laps, Qualifications, Last Chance Heats (if needed), 5 Heats, C feature, B feature, A feature.
Qualifications – 200 points are awarded for quick timer, 198 for second quick, 196 for third, etc.
Only the top 50 qualifiers make the heats, the rest are put in the last chance heats in which the first eight finishers will fill the back of that night’s C feature (starting in the sixth row).
Last Chance Heats (for drivers out of the top 50 in Qual.) – 50 points awarded to the winner, 47 for 2nd, etc.
Heats – 100 points are awarded for the heat winner, points go down by three: 97, 94, 91, 88, etc.
Heats have an invert of six. Top four finishers go to A, next four to B, last two to C.
C feature – Top four finishers go to back of the B. Fifth place is worth 92 pts., 6th is 90, etc.
B feature – The top four finishers transfer to the tail of the A. The B awards 142 points for fifth, 140 for sixth and so on by twos.
A feature – The A feature points are the same as time trials: 200, 198, 196 etc. This explains how a driver cannot make the A, but if he timed well may have more points than someone who did make the A.
First tie breaker is finish position in respective main event. Next tie breaker is rank in time trial. Other tie breaking criteria may be implemented if needed.
A perfect score (quick time, heat win, feature win) is 500. Cars line up for Saturday’s championship straight up by points earned on their qualifying night.
Saturday:
Saturday Events: E feature, D feature, C feature, B feature, Knoxville Nationals Championship feature.
With the exception of the B feature which takes the top four finishers to the tail of the 360 Nationals Championship, all other features transfer the top two finishers to the tail of the next event (if there are scratches, there may be more taken for a particular event).
Any questions regarding format, rules, and qualifying nights need to be referred to the Knoxville Raceway.
